dv8000t question

Is the dv8000t's motherboard compatable with the amd turion processor? If so I'm thinking of switching it out with my dv8000z's mobo so that I can get some decent gpu power. What I would really like to do is get a mobo from an alienware notebook that supports sli, but I'm not sure if it would fit the case. On the other hand I know for a fact the dv8000t's mobo would fit. Its exaclty the same except for the vid card and cpu that comes with it. Oh man I just thought about this, since it supports the core duo it has ddr2 slots right? plz tell me it supports ddr so I can use my turion cpu.

Nope nope nope and nope

Sorry but the diffrent cores require diffrent chip sets and everything. A duo 2 core wal problay fit into a current duo spot but not the AMD ones. Same goes for desktop as they have difrent pin configeratiosn and everything.

Yeah thats what I figured....So I'm stuck with a notebook that can barely play the latest games. Damn you HP make them upgradable!

i would also wonder if u can even swap motherbords as each laptop is prity custom designed. Everything probaly well not fit. Especialy wetween a alian wares and a hp. but 2 diffrent dv8000 may work, the amd bord for the duo motherbord. that may be possable.

It's not HP's fault. Every Laptop is the same way. People need to research before they buy

ew2x4, I got this as a grad present from parents. No research really involved and I had no clue I was getting it till they handed me a wrapped up box and I opened it. Also to your reply that every laptop is the same way, well thats wrong. There are companies out there that allow upgrades to their notebooks. Very very few, but still some none the less.

You will never be able to put a Turion in a Core Duo motherboard. Ever. As for upgradable video cards, Which notebooks allow you to swap out any card with any other? Of course there are times where you swap out a certain card with a very similar card with Dell, but that's it.

You state that there are companies that allow upgrades to their notebooks. Very very few, but still some none the less.. Just so this thread may contain some useful info... How about listing the mfg /models you are talking about, along with the pricing. I say to add the pricing as it's not fair to compare a unit that costs $1,200... with one that costs more. On your problem I have a simple solution... Read thru the below link, do some research on what best fits your needs, then sell the one you got as a gift, then buy one that suits your needs.... One you do that post back what you ended up getting, the spec'd the price paid, and were you purchased it from.... once again so this thread may contain some useful info.... So this thread may be of help to someone else. Mobile Graphics Card Comparison Chart If you're looking for a gaming laptop, Or doing graphic intensive work the GPU should be your top priority. GPU is the "video card" for those of you who don't know. http://www.notebookforums.com/thread157799.html

Is the dv8000t's motherboard compatable with the amd turion processor? NO BTW.... Have you priced a dv8000t motherboard? It's ain't like a desktop system that you can get the motheboard and cpu bundled together for $150- $200 +/=... 407758-001 582.00 System board (motherboard) - Intel 945PM chipset (full-featured) - For Pavilion models 407762-001 927.00 Intel Pentium M processor - 2.0GHz (Yonah, 667MHz processor side bus) You'll need the above, plus some ram.. take your pick:... You'll need (2) of each as DDR-2 has to be installed in pairs. 409059-001 292.00 512MB, 667MHz DDR2, PC2-5300, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM) 409060-001 542.00 1.0GB, 667MHz DDR2, PC2-5300, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (SODIMM) In addtion you might need the correct A/C brick for the dv8000t... 408488-001 75.00 AC adapter - Input voltage 110-240VAC, 50/60Hz - Output voltage 90-watt, 18.9VDC - None power factor correction (NPFC) technology And here's the cord for that A/C brick if needed: 403811-001 23.00 AC power cord (Black) - 3.0m (10ft) long, 3-wire plug (US) EDIT 7-3-2006 ... You'll also need a new hard drive (Or drives) as the dv8000t uses SATA hard drives. Those aren't cheap either... Add all that up... tell me the total price... * * * * * * * Just for a hoot... have you priced a mobo from an alienware notebook that supports sli???? that you mentioned and priced the GPU's that will be needed? PS: This makes NO sense "Oh man I just thought about this, since it supports the core duo it has ddr2 slots right? plz tell me it supports ddr so I can use my turion cpu" You had just asked about doing a swap of the motherboard to get a better GPU (7600 series Nvida)... asking about the ram (dv8000t uses DDR-2)... and then you finish it up saying "plz tell me it supports ddr so I can use my turion cpu"... You need to sell the (z), OR see if you can get it swapped out for a dv8000t, with the 7600 Nvida GPU. (SEE above link on GPU's) You can spec out the z, and t here... see how much differance in price you'd be looking at: http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPLanding....opnav=&browse=

DDR2 doesn't need to be in pairs to work, only for dual channel to work.

Yes I know....

Another thing I forgot to mention is the dv8000t uses SATA hard drive(s).
