downgrade cpu and upgrade warranty?
Yeah - I'd go with a 1.8x/2.0 Duo. The extra 160Mhz isn't going to be a great asset, and you're going to want a Merom eventually anyway.

make sure u get complete care, it will greatly help out.

Interesting, I never thought the warranties were necessary...maybe I should reconsider.

Didn't you own a Dell already, and complain and return it?

Sure did.

So you are buying another one...

Why?

touche!

as far as the price goes, thats awsome, I'd hit it.

You should consider the complete care. I didnt bother, i'm cheap and take good care of my stuff, but it is good coverage if you do take your laptop out every day.

The 9400 is cheaper and I don't imagine I'll have the same issues twice. If I do, then it's an inherent problem with Dell not just a bad laptop (lemon).

I'm looking at the M1210 as well but, for the price, it's signifigantly less powerful than the 9400 for only a marginal cost saving.

I've also had no luck finding a suitable replacement via the retail route.

The 6400 and under models have no video card options that I like.

Hardly a "touche"...

For the record, I complained about getting a lemon (M1710) that had a terrible screen and a defective sound card. So I returned it instead of dealing with what would have been a cyclical return/repair future.

Now I am considering purchasing another Dell with the hopes that I don't have the same problems. The fact that I can rig a 9400 to be spec-even with the 1710 for $300 less is why I am posting this query.

Well, if you bought a $3000 Dell, and you were dissapointed, I'm not sure a $1500 Dell is going to meet your standards

I remember your posts, and you absolutely dogging the M1710's meager screen, and how HP etc have such better screens, just surprised your going back for more

I mean I absolutely love my E1705, but I was just wondering?

Well, in my case the 1710 was $2099 and the 1904 is $1899 so the price difference isn't that big. But, yes, I was dissapointed.

However, many have told me that it was likely just a bad "batch" and others have received nice screens, etc. So, I thought I'd give it another go.

Plus, this time around, I can save a few bucks knowing that the backpack and fancy lights aren't that important.

Yes, the HP screens I've had are better. But, all things considered, the components on the Dell keep me coming back.

Thats all I wanted to hear

If it's only a $300 difference, I would go with a M1710 personally.

Good luck, price looks good!

being in canada must sorta suck price wise.... like here i love it that i could get an E1705 for usually about 500-700 lower in price with similar specs so im sorry to hear about all your problems... and indeed i do believe you must have had a lemon because their new computers should never come with those type of issues

Agreed with the above, you also have to remember Pink, he's talking Canadian funds, so it ends up being roughly the same amount

On the whole, the price difference between Canada and the US isn't that bad. It seems that instead of coupons we simply have "sales" that amount to a similar discount.

The 1710 I had configured was about $500 more on the US site before rebates so, in the end, they can be closer in price than you'd think.
