Slowing down the system for better battery performance?

Anyone try underclocking their sager 5660? Or some other means as to lengthen your battery time? In cases for DVD playback. If there was some way to down clock to 1GHz which is plenty for DVD play back. Just a thought.

check the bios... I don't have a sager yet, but that's where the controls would be (if at all)

No option in bios for me...or probably for anyone else. I was thinking....anyone think it would be possible to flash the sager board (in my case the 845 based one) with a bios from another board that offers fsb adjustment and what not? What would the bios do when it didn't find pci slots and what not? Perhaps someone could write such a thing....could be very useful if possible both for overclocking and for battery life (underclocking/undervolting etc).

Yes, it's in a category listed something like "Advanced Intel chip Control" or something like that... I can't remember off the top of my head. You have to hit enter to jump into the controls for it in the bios list and there you will see the options to adjust the % of underclocking you want to run to conserve the battery. That's in the 5660. I didn't see it in the 8886. I believe it comes default maxed out at 50% from the factory for optimum battery life, but you may want to check yours.

Anyone find out a way to force the clock throttling? When it activates under battery power, it goes down to 697MHZ, which is great. I am trying to find a way in Windows to force it to throttle on command. It would increase to battery life nicely. Currently, I use PowerStrip and underclock my video card as much as possible. It gave me another 5 minutes of battery life. I am looking to do so for simple games and DVD under Battey power. 700Mhz is plenty with this video card for DVD play. Any ideas?
