Keyboard is drunk. What should I do :\

Big dummy here. I was drinking while playing some World of Warcraft last night and dumped some of my beer on my 9300. Now anytime I hit the letters a,s,d,f 4 or more characters pop up for one stroke.

Will it resolve itsself (is it just maybe damp) or is it toast and I should order a new keyboard for it?

Let it dry out all the way then if it still wont work, buy a new one.

Are you saying to run a wet cloth over it or completely dunk it?
dunk it...just let it dry completely before using it...

Is it just me or are these people who chime in with complete care or extended warranties are somewhat like trolls? So someone doesn't get an extended warranty or complete care and their laptop dies after the normal warranty runs out. Do we really need someone who has to feel their giving you an "I told you so" Its just freaking irritating. You contributed absolutely nothing to my post.

Now to the subject. Its working again I sat it out in the sun for an hour. Boy glad I didn't waste money on complete care

^ Agreed 100%

Great news! Are the keys a bit sticky?
and when it seeps into the mainboard you'll wish you had complete care.

i find that people who bitch about people who say you should have got complete care when you spill or drop it and have to buy a new pc deserve what they get

The same thing happened to me. My friend spilled V8 juice over my keyboard but I just asked Dell to send me a replacement keyboard. I used Dell chat and told them the keys took "more pressure to depress than other keys" for no reason (when in fact it was sticky). They said if I reseated the keyboard and I said yes, and since that's their only troubleshooting issue, they had to send me another keyboard. Best of all, I didn't have to return my old keyboard back.

I wouldnt go to all the effort of getting a new keyboard sent out only for something spilt on it...AT LEAST try cleaning it with warm water first...
the keyboard keys should be removable. if you lift up from the bottom of a key and pry up, you can take it out. apply a little force to get the key back in when you're done cleaning. it's all small flexible plastic tabs, shouldn't be too hard.

I have dunked keyboards before.... its easy and works great. Just dont connect it again until it is COMPLETELY dry and everything will be OK.

No need for Completecare in this instance, its an easy fix, I have 5 kids, gunky keyboards are a way of life for me... Gunk it, Dunk it, Dry it, Connect it, use it, repaeat as needed!

Probably a good idea to have a air compressor on hand, heh?

free replacement

I did the same thing, though it was crown and coke instead of beer

chatted with dell warranty support and they sent me a new keyboard free

Told them the space bar was sticking

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE ANY OF THE KEYS!!!

We tried it on one of our testing laptops at work and those keys are a huge PITA to get back on. None of us on the support team succeeded.
