Hi,

Just thought I would pass this a long. HP dv8000z laptop and HP 1410 all in one printer $499.99 @ Office Depot after reabates.
$979.99 regular price
$829.99 after $150 instant savings

$50 Manufacturer HP pc rebate
$80 Manufacturer HP printer rebate
$200 mail in rebate (I guess from Office Depot)

The pc is equiped as follows and must be ordered from HP at Office Depot:
AMD Sempron Processor 3300+
DVD-RW Drive
512 MB RAM (2 - 256 MB modules)
60 GB Hard Drive
128 MB ATI Radeon Graphics Card

The pc can be upgrated to AMD Turion ML-34 for $50.00. According to the HP website there is other upgrades which I supose can be had at Office Depot.

Later,

Paul

Thanks for passing along the info... That's a really good deal for those that don't know... if the CPU and GPU is powerfull enough for your needs. Edit July 5-2006 =On that $200 rebate.... It's thru Office Depot... NO signing up for a year of AOL or that kind of garbage.. Thanks again for taking the time to give a heads-up to people.... Here's a linking explaining the various video cards being used on systems these days... (Video card=GPU) Mobile Graphics Card Comparison Chart http://www.notebookforums.com/thread157799.html

It's a good notebook if you don't do any heavy gaming, or plan to move it around much.

Otherwise, you might want to get something else if you play Doom 3, Quake 4, and all those next-gen games. Or if you plan on traveling alot.

Best bang for the buck in my opinion. Printer is trash though. Cartridges are ridiculously priced... Ex: 5ml of Black for $15 as opposed to the usual 15 ml for $25

thanks for that last post. I dont plan on doing any gaming. but i do plan on using the adobe suite. but i do plan on using the adobe and macromedia suite. (photoshop, dreamweaver, fireworks, director....) and as far as travaling, nah. mostly for home and office use.

thanks!

You said you don't do any gaming. but i do plan on using the adobe suite. but i do plan on using the adobe and macromedia suite. (photoshop, dreamweaver, fireworks, director.... So read thru the write up. Some cards are weak on rendering 3D, stuff like CAD... I'd think the GPU would be fine as it's the best of the intergrated /low end GPU's. (Video card=GPU) Mobile Graphics Card Comparison Chart http://www.notebookforums.com/thread157799.html On the warranty, Yes you can buy the HP later. One last thing... Is this a good deal? Yes... shame you can't get the DVD BURNER though. (Unless that can be added at the store while ordering???? If anyone orders one of these, please ask)

The printer is the reason they are selling the laptop so cheap....

Since it appears you are tired of getting ripped off on the price of a cartridge, please take a moment to POST in this thread: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread159591.html

Er... No, I'm only angry at that particular model.

Sure HP has slightly pricier cartridges, but I feel that the prices for my 56/57 (which was my reference point) is pretty reasonable. Besides, I've been using HP printers for 13 years now.

Deskjet 600 --> Deskjet 812 --> Deskjet 5850

Despite all the changes in HP computers over the years, I have seen nothing but excellence from their imaging department.

I just want informed consumers who will recognize the hidden costs of these deals (i.e. the cost of using the printer)

Just a heads up people, went to OD tonight.. and it appears you can CTO (Custom to Order) and still get the rebates.

Good deal if you're

A: a AMD man.. or B: Looking for a machine for "regular" laptop use (Business- Productivity)... since the GPU is on the weak side for playing games....

I'm wondering "if" the new AMD chips would be a direct swap /plug?

PS: On the printer, the summary page lists $80 off, either a f380, or 1410... the f380 being $3.04 cheaper...

Note for the record you may be able to order it without the printer... It showing an option to select NONE, subtract $79.99 .... (useful for those on a budget you don't want the printer, don't want to be out the $80 while waiting on the rebate)

New AMD's use a new socket, so that would be a definate no. They also now use DDR-2.

WeAreNotAlone,

I believe that this laptop has a 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer drive. You can also opt for the following:

DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive [subtract ($49.00)]

LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
Kiss your permanent markers and stickers goodbye--now there's a better way to burn custom, precise, silkscreen-quality labels on CDs and DVDs: HP's exclusive LightScribe laser technology. Now you can get creative and personalize your labels with cool text, photos, and graphic designs, then let LightScribe transfer them to your discs. Dual-format DVD drives lets you easily preserve, edit and share video and photos ? and quickly store, back up and transport your music and data ? on DVDs and CDs. With double-layer technology, store up to 8.5GB - almost twice as much as a regular, single-layer DVD. It records DVD+/-R at up to 8X, DVD+/-RW at up to 4X, and CDs at up to 24X. (Actual speeds may vary. Does not permit copying of commercially available DVD movies or other copyright-protected materials. Intended only for creation and storage of original material and other lawful uses. Double-layer discs can store more data than single-layer discs. However, double-layer discs burned with this drive may not be compatible with many existing single-layer DVD drives and players. HP recommends the use of single-layer DVD+R discs for maximum compatibility with other DVD drives and players. LightScribe creates a grayscale image similar to a black and white photograph. LightScribe media required and sold separately).

Not sure of the cost?

Ummm, Don't think so. Ad says: "Plays DVD's /CD's and burns Cd's Via the Office Deport configuration computer at my local OD store the DVD drive options listed as: 1: DVD/CD-RW-Combo Drive (Inculded) 2: Super Muitl 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/double layer Support (Our recommendation) ADD $50.00 3: LightScribe Super Multi 8x DVD+/-RW w/double layer ADD $75.00 Default is the first option. Costco only charged $59.68 for tax...(4%) not to mention free shipping on a dv8000t I ordered in April when the tax should have been $134 if fiqured at the "local" tax rate of 9%. Don't know how OD does the tax, but they may charge the local tax rate since the order has to be placed THRU the local store. $1,491.99 Subtotal: $1,491.99 Shipping & Handling: $0.00 Tax: $59.68 Less Coupon(s): ( $150.00) Order Total: $1,401.67

So... How many people got one?
Thanks to this board for the heads up on this deal, I placed an order for one this past Saturday evening. I bumped up to the ML-34 processor, 80 GB SATA HD, the 1680 x 1050 screen, wireless network card with bluetooth, and the LightScribe DVD. It came out to just under $700 after rebates. I'll pickup 1 gig of memory and throw it in there. It is only going to get used for internet surfing, a little photoshop work, and some working at home on Word, Excel, and Power Point; so it should be able to meet my needs. The only regret is that I missed upgrading to XP pro. I would have liked to be able to network with my home desktop. I thought I had checked it off, but when I looked at my order on Monday I saw I was only getting XP Home. I called and tried to change it, but it was too late.

Does anyone know what HP's turnaround time usually is for getting these built and shipped?
