Prepurchase warranty question &...

Thread Starter
i am looking into getting a dv8000t but I think it's ridiculous what they charge for an upgrade to 2gb of ram... 270$ when i can get the same stuff for 170 on newegg.com. I want the dual hard drives but they dont offer them in 7200 speeds which is important to me. You have to use 5400 if you go dual.

What I would like to do is go with only 512k ram(2*256) and go for the 160gb(dual 80gb) and then take out both 80gb hard drives and the 512 k ram and stick in 2 100gb 7200's and 2gb of ram. then sell the 2 80gb hard drives and 512k ram on ebay or to a friend or something.

What I very much need to know though is:
Does anyone know if this would void the warranty? swap out both hard drives and both mem modules?

On a small side note,
i am trying to decide if i should buy it from costco or on hpshopping.com with my epp which gives an additional 7 to 10% off purchases. Saving an extra bit of money is very important to me.

HP is only going to warranty the items the unit was shipped with. No mfg is going to warranty the ham and eggs you bring to the restaurant if they prove to be no good. For example they aren't going to warranty a 100gig drive, when the unit shipped with a 80. You sell those drives and you could have problems later on if the unit needs service, or it needs to be swapped out at some point. Ditto on the ram... Costco vs HP? HP has a 21-day return window... Costco a 180 day return window... with No restocking fees, get ALL your money back. PS: On the warranty, if purchasing thru Costco you can order the EW later thru HP...if you see a plan on HP's site that will better work for your needs. One more thing.. while I can understand wanting the extra hd space I'd go with the 7,200 and buy an external hard drive enclosure for extra storage space.... (see above link)

It's been few years since I got the warranty from some NY Company (1800tech.com) I think it was. They call it Labor Pass Warranty ( 2 years for $195 ) It died few times already, was not powering on, and they actually fixed it both times. I paid $15 each time for the Shipping...
Great Deal!
