gentech's S96J questions

Thread Starter
Well I have officially become a fan of the Asus s96J, It offers the video card and the weight I desire. I found gentech as a reseller but i have some questions for you guys out there.

Is there a noticable difference between the 2.16 and the2.0 ghz proc?
Is it cheaper to buy the ram from like zipzoomfly and install it yourself or will that void warranty?
Is tehre a huge difference between 5400 rpm and 7200 rpm? or Hitachi and seagate?
Wats the difference between sloy load and super multi?
and should i get the 3 year limited warranty?
Issue that arises is the fact that at gentech its costing me 2k but at ibuypower it was costing me 1700. Thanks for you're help

1. No, its not worth it going from 2.0 to 2.16ghz.

2. Actually the RAM on gentech is very well priced and you probably might even have to pay a little more if you but the same RAM from somewhere else.

3. Well, there is, faster loading times, faster access times, a bit more heat from the 7,200, I mean the difference is really no big deal.

4. Slot load, is a slot where you put the disk in, Super Multi is a disk tray that comes out, I prefer Super Multi because ive had issues with Slot load drives jamming on me before. (Not on an S96J, other HP and Compaq desktops).

5. If you think your gonna need it, sure, you get 1 year warrant of gentech standard, and 2 year limited warranty from Intel.

6. Ibuypower, is not so good, look at the rating from resellerratings

http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/c...r.aspx?mid=173

now look at Gentechs

http://www.resellerratings.com/seller594.html

I have also heard, not to many good things about ibuypower, such as quality of HDD, and RAM, etc, plus you have to get that ugly picture on the back of your screen.

thanks, I'm probably going to configure as such:
2.0 proc
100 gig 7200 rpm hdd
Still have to decide on slot cause the slot looks cool
and ram definatly 2 gigs,
Warrenty probably 1 year cause I will only be using for a year and then ill be giving it to my mom when i go to college and then get a new one then. (have to buy a new one now cause my desktop pooped out on me).

Reason why i mentioned ibuy is the price difference thats all but i would rather pay a little more and be worry free than to have a defective computer for 100 less.

also, have you guys seen any of the online codes for gentech cause i haven't yet but still searching

This laptop is going to act as a desktop replacement/ occasional gamer laptop, I believe it would suffice but what do you guys think.

This is the ONLY laptop I found during these last few months of research that offers that videocard, for this weight, Except for the macbookpro but i believe that this is still better, cause macbook is underclocked.

One more question, how would it compare to my current 2.8 ghz stock p4, ati 9800 pro 128mb stock, 1 gig of ram rig? I would like it to surpass it/
post #5 of 35
A Core Duo 2.0 ghz will blow your P4 at 2.8, it will be like a 3.8 ghz in certain applications with core duo patches, but overall it will kill your P4.

The x1600 will be a significant improvement over the 9800 in most places.

And of course 2gigs will kill 1gig.

My desktop is almost the exact same (except for I have 3ghz). Anyway, about the extra battery. If I don't purchase one with the notebook, is there any where else I could get one later?

i bought an extra one, when I go mobile I go mobile for a while. I've seen the threads but I was wondering, Should I disconnect the battery when I plug it in and use it as a desktop ( meaning i attach a moniter, keyboard, and mouse). and when Im not using the second battery should i charge it fully before i store it ordrain it entirely before?

Well, gentech called today to verify the credit card number so I'm assuming that they will start to build it today. Thus, pushing back my expectance date back a day or two, still faster than dell
