Ok small list here and hope I an't forgot anyting I came up with this weekend

1: The 3 year warrenty, is it worth the cash or not with HP??

2: What do you think is better the
-17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
-17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900)
I am a gamer and am use to a 21" trinitron screen so was thinking the 1680x1050 would be
better but it is only a 17" so hey recomendations da da da

3: Is the 2.16GHz processor worth oit over the 2.0GHz. I want as much as I can out of this thing and If I do upgrade to the duo 2 its not going to be for quite a while untel its tested out and untel we know for sure it works in this laptop and bois upgrads and ya you get the picture.

4: Please inser question here. Ya if anyone got a question, commend da da da somthing else to think about please post it up. Note I am a Programer who well be running test ervers and all the rather CPU intensive crap and I am a gamer so hey.

Thanks

YES,,, screeen for example is $956- I'd look into a plan with accident coverage... Seeing how just the LCD panel is $956 alone. 2: What do you think is better the -17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050) -17.0" WXGA+ Ultra BrightView Widescreen (1440x900) I am a gamer and am use to a 21" trinitron screen so was thinking the 1680x1050 would be better but it is only a 17" so hey recomendations da da da -17.0" WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050) 3: Is the 2.16GHz processor worth oit over the 2.0GHz. Remember to order an extra battery at time of order, select the $13 remote, select the $10 OS backup disc Thanks
^ ^ See above in blue ^ ^

Ok well cosco has only 3 warrenty upgrades

1-yr Accidental Damage Protection & Express Repair [subtract ($60.00)]
2-yr Extended Service Plan with HP Express Repair [subtract ($60.00)]
3-yr Extended Service Plan with HP Express Repair [included]

so only 1 with accedential bot O well.

As for screen ya think the 1680 the way to go. As for processor think I well end up with a 2ghz just to save the coine. I could spend the extra cash but I think I well save a little as I plan to upgrade. As for the bettwey, not sure if I well nead a extra battery for what I am using the laptop for but ya for the price might be worth putting the cash into it. Mist use the cash form the processor on the battery and say a bit more HD lol.

and way ahead of you, got the backup disc and the remote selected lol.

GT_Hawk,

When I bought my dv8000t the insurance was NOT an option thru Costco (I did contact them their Exceutive offices about adding it as an option,,, maybe my comments made an impact? )

Because is wasn't an option, I called HP directly and was told the insurance could be bought directly thru HP. The rep wanting to "ring me up" right then, even though I had not received the shipment.

Not surpising as EW's are cash-cows... Does anyone really think their cost is anywhere near $956 for the screen?

CTO =Online.... Of course if they have internet access, I would assume they would help you order one... and they'd also be there to answer your questions on buying with a out of country visa card, etc, etc, etc.

Sales tax on my order was only $56.....USA address....

guess I am NOT getting the laptop ordered today. Tryed to place the order to find out the costco.com site well not allow me to put in a canadian billing address. Caled thme up and thye said has to be a US billing and shipping address. To be hoenst htis makes no sence to me at all as my credit card has been proven to work here in the states many times. But they can't do it so I get screwed. And from what I understand I can't do a custom laptop build from a store which is 5 min drive form here. Life sucks sometimes
post #11 of 22
See if they can ship to the store and you go pick it up.

I got a Us shipping address. that is not a issue. Its the billing address on my cred card is Canadian. So anyone know if I can do a custom order from a costco store. It would be easer as thye could jsut charge the dam card and not worrya obut billing address.

I sort of knew that was going to happen... Can you blame them though? It's hard enough to track down credit card fraud... with the card being from the SAME country. It make perfect sense for them to not accept a card with the billing address in another country. Have a solution... apply for the Costco American Express card... Or you could apply for a US version of the Visa card. Problem solved. PS: You "may" be able to buy a Costco "gift" card in the amount of the purchase... and then upon check-out use that. You may try also talking with the store manager, offering to pay in-store. They should be able to do something for you, but realize they have rules they have to follow and Costco.com is s totally seperate division from your local store. On a side note as an example to show how Costco will "work" with you.. I had 4 of those large Stainless Steel Toolboxes transfered from one store to another, from 1/2 way across the country shipped in... paying at my local store with a Costco AMX card.... and the offical policy was NO transfering /Shipping of product from one-store to another.

See above post.... Get a new VISA card with the billing and shipping address the same. You need to get on the phone with your VISA company... They are the ones you need to be talking to. (Either that or apply for an Costco AMX card..... I applied and was authorized to make purchases /approved within minutes of applying if memory serves me correctly)

Actuay find it a litlt eodd as I have never had issues ordering form Us sites in the past. Most well take a US/Canadian Visa easelay. I mean its not like we are talking japan or anything here, Canada is just north. and in the end Visa is a US companey. so even tho I got the address in canada, Visa is Us based (If i remem, ber right) so hey go figure.

Each company works things differantly. Also consider there are extra expenses in tracking someone down who has a billing address in one country and is wanting to ship it to a totally differant address in another.

The potenial for fraud is too great... the cost to track someone down and the chance of catching somone who may be commiting fraud is reduced when you have to go into another country to chase after them.

Call VISA.

still seams a little screwey as hell I have used cred card ordered from a US site billing in canada, and shipping was to Irland for a gift for a friend. Well more of a gag/prank but was still funney as hell. So ya understand the fraud idea is there, but considering how closley tied canada and us are, did not think it would be a issue, but hye guess I was wrong. Now issue is calling visa may be odd as I can't give them a dedicated address of the place I am staying as Its very temp address. 4 weeks and I am out, and don't want visa sending crap for me there lol. wonder if I could use the office address and request that VISA not send ANY mail, all electronic transactions. Oy we will see.

O i got a IDEA, any one on these bords want to loan me there card # so I can buy the laptop. I well pay you back ASAP via a check. and if someone is willing to go along with this I also have a GREAt deal on some land in the artic circle. Very green and always a warm 72 every day, never snows. :P

Man... I need to go to the horse track and place some bets on some horses.... When you first brought up the Canadian billing, US shipping address I placed a bet with myself it would be a "temp" address.

Sounds like you need to GO down to the STORE in person. see if you can BUY a Gift card or something... Get a cash advance off your "Canadian" Visa... then with cash in hand buy a gift card, then place the order via the gift card. That's about your only option I see...

Got to run... need to go pick some horses...
