can the hdtv dongle from nvidia desktop cards work with 9300

Thread Starter
hey guys. I just bought a crappy 6200 for the desktop just for normal usage. It was a PNY 6200 and it came with this hdtv dongle that plugs into something that is similiar to the svideo plug. I see that the 9300 also has a similiar plug on the back but the bottom two pins are joined together on the laptop where are the plug for the dongle the pins are seperate. I was wondering if this dongle would also work on the 9300. thank you

I am not sure but on the dual core models (9400/e1705/m1710) the dongle it comes with has HD component out, so it might work, but I am not sure if the 9300 was designed to output component.

I also have a 9300 and I was wondering the same. I have a Nvidia 6800 go and I can't find an option in the Nvidia control pannel to turn on hdtv output like they have on the newish desktop cards. So I just asumed that it can't but if anyone can mod the drivers or something good luck becuase I would take 1080i even 780i over s-video any day.

Oh and by the way no that cable would not work. The spacing of the pins are not right I have a cable like this and can not get it to fit becuase of the spacing of the 2 pins and the pins in the middle row. Its a diferent plug type.

S-Video will only output up to 1024x768 -- you'd need component for 720p and 1080i

Wonder when DELL is going to add HDCP to the DVI signal?

DVI+ HDCP=HDMI http://www.digitalconnection.com/FAQ/HDTV_12.asp

So you're saying the 1705's that have a DVI output port are shipping with a dongle to convert to component out so you can hook it up to a big screen HDTV? (16x9 format)

I would assume so since my M1710 came with a dongle that hooks up to the s-video port which has 4 jacks in it, 3 jacks for component, and then another for digital audio.

exabytehd,

Thanks for the info as being able to connect to a HDTV big screen tv is a big plus.

EEKKK... connects to the S-Video port???? I was thinking it was a converter that plugs into the DVI output, converting the DVI into component...

LifeVirusZERO Can you please edit your "sig" so the two small boxes stack on top of each other. When people put pic's side by side the page formating goes to crap.... and you have to scroll back and forth , back and forth while viewing a page with such.

Thank you sir for the fast edit... MUCH better...

Crazy colors? Got your eye didn't it? At least I didn't use light grey colors on a slightly darker grey background like some sites do! (or some other weird color scheme in which the page colors are like black, with dark, dark blue that blends into the page....)

Well even if I say its an s-video port I doubt it is a normal one, its got more pins just like the ones I see on desktop cards, and the dongle is very similar to the one that came with the 6600 gt in my desktop, and it is definately component out on the dongle, since its got RGB.

actually DVI + digital sound = HDMI

HDMI is both audio and video, DVI is just video.
