6400 Temps, X1400 and T2400 core duo

I downloaded the I8kfanGUI, what an awesome utility. The only problem is that now I am concerned about temps.

The processor generally runs cool at idle, around 40C, and maxing out at 55C when playing Call Of Duty 2 for an hour.

The ATI X1400 however is a different story, it sits at idle at about 55C and goes to 65C when playing games, and that is without overclocking. Is this OK? I know GPUs get hot but damn Intel processors at that heat are on the verge of shutting down.

Also I noticed that my memory temp hits 60C sometimes, is that normal as well?

I am pretty well informed as far as overclocking on the desktop, I had a pentium 3 650 running at almost 1 GHz before the retail 1GHz chip came out but DAMN it seems I am running too hot. This is also in a 72-75 degree air conditioned room.

Any insight would be great, I have a feeling that notebooks just run a bit hotter and can handle the heat but I want to make sure.

Is there a cooler generally recommended for the 6400 when I am using it at home as a desktop replacement to play games?

I heard somewhere that the Core Duo is OK up to 120 C. Seeing as they don't bother putting a fan in for the GPU I suppose it's expected to get hot. Mine gets up to 75 C sometimes but I don't think it's a problem.

Try checking the ATI website for operating temps. So long as it doesn't go above 90 or start getting artifacts in the 3D I woulldn't worry.

Come to think of it, the 120 C figure was from the ACPI critical temp (126 C) which is where the power to the CPU is cut if it gets dangerously hot. I got this from another useful utility called MobileMeter.

Maybe you guys can try this for more accurate readings for the cpu.
