Im tired of my Dell, and since they have no clue, Im turning to you, the AW proud, to see what you think of my new homebrew project ideas. This will be my first attempt at a complete build, but I have torn down and built up many a rig in my day. The system will consist of the following:

Thermaltake Soprano ATX Case
Thermaltake XP-120 K8 CPU Heatsink
Thermaltake Thunderblade 120mm fan (for the XP-120)
Hiper Typer R 580watt PSU
AMD Athlon X2 3800+ CPU (ample room to overclock)
2Gb DDR-400 RAM
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard
320Gb Raid 0 HDD
NEC CD/DVD writer player
XFX 7950GX2 XXX Edition GPU (When it ever arrives)

Thats about as kickass as I can get with the cashflow at the moment, but upgrades will be assuredly happening, especially with the memory. Let me know what you think and if there are any helpful suggestions, please feel free. Thanks

thats gonna be one kickass gaming comp!!!!!!!! i wonder if you can SLI 2 GX2s and have 2gbs of VRAM, you could prompt for more, with a looooooooooooooooot of hacking, cuz windows only supports 2gbs, but its gonna be loud with that 120mm fan................................

Yeah, I was looking at the noise rating on the fan, and it can get noisy, but the tower will be at my feet on a stand, so noise will be somewhat reduced......if not I'll just turn up whatever im listening to and viola!!!! With that case, there will be a total of 3 120mm fans, and 1 90mm all running at once.

Thaks for the compliment, and I shall post pics next weekend, as I have to work all this week as the components arrive, so it will be a while before it all goes together.

the price for the Athlon X2 3800+ should be dropping about 40% pretty soon (July 23rd or so), you might wanna wait a few days..

Ahhh dang it.....ordered it on Friday last week.....maybe I can return it if the price drops and reorder it. I also found my XP-120 for $10 less off of overclockers.com

Looks like a very sweet rig your gonna be putting together there. Heard a lot of good things about the 7950gx2. I think sparda posted in another thread what the Athlon chips will be reduced too....really big savings (1/2 off in some instances for sweet chips). Is that ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe a AM2 motherboard or 939? I would consider getting an AM2 motherboard for future upgrades.

Other than that...awesome stuff.

edit: Sparda's AMD price drop thread http://www.notebookforums.com/thread157845.html

Its a 939, but Im going to send it back when its recieved, so I can switch it to an AM2. The new Asus A8n32 Mobo's will support AM2 and 939 so I should be all set. Thanks for the suggestions and help guys. I wanna try to put together a photo buildup like Yang88she did for his watercooling rig, so stay tuned.......Thanks again!!!

The A8N32-SLI Deluxe is a socket 939 only motherboard. You'll need something like the M2N-SLI Deluxe for AM2.

Will be looking forward to your build pics!

it'll be built and cleaned up by this weekend. Wat\iting on 7950GX2 and new mobo now. I dunno.....I may stick with this mobo....im still undecided. I May have to run my 7800GTX until the 7950 comes in......

The 7800gtx is still a sweet card and pretty top-o-line...so you won't have to suffer too much.

yeah, I know .......I think im gonna run the a8n mobo.....If i upgrade mobo, a complete rebuild wouldnt be too far gone at that point, so it wont be too difficult to attain. Ima "git er done" this weekend, and the 7950 will be in my hands by Tuesday......mmmm sounds like its gonna be a good tuesday
