What to do when you first get your notebook...

Ok, tomorrow I will most likely be getting my Inspiron 8600, and I'm wondering what I should do before I start actually using it. That includes such things as reinstalling the OS and other stuff. What should I do that makes my system perform to it's optimum?

reinstall your own OS and remove all traces of trashy dell software forever

Use nice programs like :-

1] System Mechanic 4.0 Professional from www.iolo.com to maintain your system in top shape

2] Zone Alarm : To protect your system from the hooligans on the internet

I agree with alittlefly.
First thing you do is pray and do the "no dead pixel happy happy joy joy dance" to satisfy the pixel gods. Then youy reinstall.

Ok, read this forum first, a lot of good info.... When you first get it check it out to make sure its ok, then plug it in and turn it on. Look at the screen for any probs check the system specs to make sure you got what you paid for. Run a DVD to check for the light prob also make sure to look for any dead pixels.

If you are happy with it get up to date drivers from Dell and then do a clean install of XP, update the drivers then start adding the the things you want.

Add a firewall, virus protection, spybot, Ad Aware, Speedswitchxp, powerstrip, and anything you feel you need.

Check out Blackviper.com and turn off the junk that slows down the machine.

not all of the dell software is useless. remember to put BACK dell quickset software otherwise those shiney plastic buttons on the blue rim are pretty much useless
