I'm back! Question about RAM

K, so there's no way I'm getting 2 GB of RAM in my E1705 from the start (even if i order from newegg), because of my budget.

So I plan on starting at 1 GB of RAM, and getting a 1GB stick about a month or two later from newegg, which will put me at 1.5 GB (damn Dell and their 2 DIMMs). Then I plan on upgrading again to a solid 2 GB around Christmas (hoping that around that time, it will be more useful).

Anyways, right now I have 1 GB in the laptop i'm using now (Compaq nc6000 ) but it's only 333MHz. Will i noticed a performance increase from 333MHz to 533MHz?

And if I don't play any games like FEAR or Oblivion, or Battlefield 2, will i even notice a difference from 1GB of RAM to 2GB?

If so, will there be a difference from 1 to 1.5?

Thanx in advance to anyone who helps

well if you dont play top line games or do ram hogs, then more ram is not a big deal.... also, the 1 to 1.5 you will prolly not notice much of a big change or anything. and yea, from 333- 533mhz ram i think you will find yourself seeing a difference

"(damn Dell and their 2 DIMMs)"

Know of any laptops with more than 2 memory slots?

Yup! Sure do. Area-51 m7700

But anyways, I didn't mean it like that. I meant that i didn't see an option for them to only give me a 1GB stick, instead of 512x2. Because that would save me about $90, cuz now i have to go out and buy a 1GB stick twice. Guess i said that wrong, opps.

1.5 Gigs will definitely improve BF2

1.0 gigs is not quite enough for it.

2.0 gigs for BF2 is best

Unless you're doing work in Photoshop or other image/video/audio editting programs or gaming, the difference between 1GB and 2GB probably won't be as striking.

I just upgraded from 1gb to 2gb. I DO NOT notice any difference except in the critical moments (like 0.5% of the time you are using the computer) in BF2.

I upgraded straight away from 1 to 2 gig ram (667 mhz) and I noticed absolutely no difference at all. Having said that I only play older games eg cod and cod uo plus torrent downloads and some video converting etc. Also I have to say that my 9400 doesn`t seem hardly any faster than my old inspiron 8600 , both lappies had the same size processor,2ghz , it`s just that I can do more apps with dual core thats all.

K, thank you. Both of you just made me feel much better about not having 2 GB at the start. K, thanx everyone.

If you are the ones that really get pissed off when you got shot because of a 0.5 second lag, then you need to buy the ram.

Got another question.

So I just found this laptop very similar to the one i was gonna order, in the Dell Outlet for the same price. But the processor is a 2.0 GHz, which is actually what i wanted, but couldn't afford.

BUT can you only get Complete Care with the 3 yr warranty? Because I dont see that with the 2 yr warranty. And I want complete card. I have never broken a laptop in my life...but I want complete care.

And I don't want the 3 yr warranty is because it will put the price over the one I currently want.

best option is NOT to mix the RAM, cause if you do it'll downstep your nice ram.
1GB is PLENTY for you, no biggy, only certain games/programs really care.
Also, as far as the CPU, I wouldn't, the 2.0 has quite a price-boost on it...

Hope that helps.
