My first laptop.

Hello,

I'm looking to buy the first new laptop of my life!
(I have 3 old laptops, none were bought new!)

And here's what I'm looking to have:
Core 2 Duo CPU (2ghz+?)
Good enough graphics (almost gaming quality, but not for games.. but movies, etc)
Maybe 2GB RAM (Just incase, to save me trouble from upgrading)
Battery life of 3+ hours
Good build quality? (Seems like it's a popular topic around here.)
Fingerprint reader?

Maybe waterproof?
Sleek looks. (Love the brushed metal like Vaio SZ)
Good support.
Less thickness
Less noise if not none.
Less than $2,000.
If location helps, I'm in Toronto, Canada.
And the stores here are:
www.canadacomputers.com
www.futureshop.ca
www.bestbuy.ca

(In case you're way too helpful ;-)

Your help would be really appreciated.

both are good laptops. One has a bigger hard drive, the other has more video RAM. Looking at selling my XPS-m170 and XPS-M1710 and getting a small one for surfing the net and these are both tempting for me.

oh, btw, you might want to check out Sager as well. I'm not sure of the build quality personally, but I know a lot of people are fans of them on here. And the have great prices. So far they have the fastest laptops that I know of too. Blew past Dell/Alienware

What the H! Dude, those laptops were totally not on CanadaComputers when I posted this! Ok, and they're so what I was looking for. So, maybe I can look at those. However, I had originally made up my mind on getting the XPS M1530 (slightly customed, but couldn't get a swivel webcam) But now I'm having second thoughts after looking at these two Asus'. Why're you looking to get rid of your XPSes?
well, I innitially started off with an XPS Gen 2, but Dell kept messing up with the tech support and every time I sent it back they didn't fix it. I showed up at their head office in TO here and bitched them out. I got a new one, the XPS M-170. Same thing happened with that one over a stupid thing that they couldn't get around to fixing, I showed up at head office, got an XPS-M1710 fully loaded with the Blue-Ray burner and 4GB RAM (that I can't use all of, lol). So I still have the XPS-M1710 and the XPS M-170. I'm buiding a $5000 desktop gaming system and won't have much need for gaming laptops so I thought I'd sell them and just get something small to chat online with, do simple things, but potentially could play a game or two when i'm out and about.
I was looking at the XPS M1530 as well, but the Sager is way better and half the price. Those ASUS are really nice as well. I have some money coming in and depending how much I get I'm still tempted to get that Sager 9261 with the dual 8800GT 512 cards (1GB total). Don't think I'd use the power much though, lol

btw, I forgot to mention. Not sure how much you need a laptop right away, but at CES or some upcoming show, I can't remember, Intel is announcing the new 45nm CPUs for notebooks. There are a few manufacturers that have them being made already, but they have to wait for Intel to give the go ahead to market and sell them. Should be mid January.

Nah, can't wait for those. I'm sure it'll not have all those. Unfortunately, in all the laptops I like, there is no swivel camera. Gonna put 2k on my CC and then go get a laptop.

http://www.canadacomputers.com/main....87&cid=896.500 What about this one? Screen is 14" and I like it, for some reason. Is it comparable to the XPS M1530?
Nevermind that one.

Final choice needs to be made between the two, can't seem to find a review on the F8.

Man lets just open up a new sticky post and close this one down. The first page data is so outdated. It doesn't really apply to buying laptop in current times.
Well, we did update the first post. If you'd like to do a better write-up, I'd be happy to either move it to the beginning of this thread or sticky yours in favor of the current one.
well if it can be updated, i think we should wait for the release of amd's turion ultra models as that would greatly change the current list. I was merely just pointing out that the list on the front page doesn't even include 8600m gpu card which has been out on the market for over a year now. I would luv to contribute data if someone is compiling a list. But yea i don't think i can cover such variety of laptops in the market to sufficiently provide a good overall guide. I would like to apologoize if i crossed any boundaries or came off as arrogant, but seriously if someone is or want to compile a new list, just pm me and ill try to help out as much as i can
