basically, technology never drops DRAMATICALLY in price so... when you see an awsome deal, just go ahead and hop on it. If it drops down some more before your laptop is sent, cancel and repurchase at the better price.

hmm so merom will be 667fsb?
yes the emroms with more fsb wil need a new socket, what means a new motherboard, what means a new laptop... what means a long time wating...
Current Meroms use the 667Mhz FSB. I gather that with the i965GM/PM chipsets, Intel will be increasing that to an 800Mhz FSB.

wait for quad core chips people... AMD announced this week that they are planning to reveal their quad core chips by the end of the year.
..people listen up paese, the CURRENCt chpset suports only 667 fsb if you want 800 Fsb you would need to wait until 2007 and get a new laptop with a new chpset, the 800 fsb wont be soportet by current chipstes. and quadcore will arrive only to desktops, and with extreme editions. you will see oil price get to 200$ before a quad core laptop.

So when Syria and Iran declare war on Israel we'll get a quadcore laptop?

This is true for early quad-cores, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see quad-core laptops before too long. Back when the Pentium-D was a new thing (and producing 130w+ of heat), I'm sure that many people would have thought the same about dual-cores - and now we've got dual-core laptops which can outperform the quickest Pentium-Ds.

so current chipsets eg. intel 945 will be able to run merom, but won't be able to use it to it's full capabilities?
The i945 will run the current Meroms at their standard speed with no problems (so I'd say that they are using the full potential of the CPU).

Getting a new i965 board with an 800Mhz FSB Merom will give better performance at the same clock speed. I would say that the new Meroms simply have more potential than the 'old' 667Mhz FSB ones (so you're using each to its full potential, but the newer one has more potential).

ok new board means new laptop, new laptop means replacing your current laptop or waiting...

I'm a total noob with notebooks so you guys please bear with me. I just ordered a 1502 and hope to run it through my Linksys wireless router which is currently hooked to a dell desktop and also runs an xbox (Live). When my new notetook arrives, will it just automatically recognize my network, or do i have to do something to set it up? Apologies for the dumb question.
Should automatically detect the network. Though this is very off topic for this thread...
Sorry for being off topic - didn't really realize, and am a novice to this. The only reason I was concerned is because my boyfriend brought his laptop over and I tried to connect wirelessly through his, and it didn't find a connection. If I need to go to another thread I'll search for one. Thanks for your help.

Im going to be buying a laptop very soon, in fact I was probably going to order one from Dell within the next few days, but after reading this I'm not too sure anymore, should I wait a bit for Dell to bring out core 2 duo on their laptops and then buy?
I'm definitely planning to wait. With Merom so close, I think it'd be silly not to wait.
