m1210 LCD light leakage :(

Hello all,

I've been putting up with light leakage from my dell m1210 since I got it about 10 days ago. I kind of thought it was normal so I want to check with other users before I give dell a ring.

Is this just normal? The bottom 40% of the screen bleeds light, which makes viewing DVD's really hard, there's no real way of getting a black down there.

Do all m1210's have the light leaking problem? Or should I give dell a ring?

Regards,
Simon.

How's the viewing angle? On mine if I don't get the screen right on the tilt it gets washed out very quickly, on blacks this is.

I noticed right when I got mine that it looks washed out. I have to look straight on at it and no matter where the bightness is it never looks as good as my Sony Vaio.

But, I haven't noticed any light leakage, it's equally washed out across the whole screen.

Humm, not sure if that's better or worse than mine!
Maybe it's just an issue with this laptop then?

It might just be a case of what you're exposed to, I think the screen is great, and I only think it's not the greatest because I have other laptops I can compare it to side by side. The color is good, brightness is great, the viewing angle is just ok, and the contrast is not the best causing the blacks to not look very black. It by no means is terrible, just not top of the line. Maybe it's for better battery life, makes the laptop cheaper or is all that is available in a 12" size? Who knows.

Ok.. But if you set your desktop to black does the bottom 1/3 of the screen have light leakage? Cos mine does.

Damn it, I just pushed the insert picture button and when I allowed the popup I lost the whole message I had just typed.

OK, no I don't see any light leakage issue. It is even in blackness from top to bottom when viewed straight on. But if I look at it from a slight angle below straight on it starts to change the further I move from head on, like a band of darker area comes from the top and moves downward across the screen. If a person was to look at it from this angle I could see how they might think it's light leakage, but the screen is pointing above my head at that point so there is no way I would ever try to use the screen like that.

The pic I took is blurry and lcds never look good in a dark room anyway. Plus it looks like there's no way to upload a pic here and I'm too lazy to go find a place to host it and create an account.

The picture is not as good as my sony and it's does look very washed out when the display is tilted too much

Display is a AUO one

I will not tolerate anything greater than 5% light leakage. I had an old Dell Latitude, perfect screen, too old and give it away to a student and then now I have a Dell D400, a bit old compared with yours, another perfect screen. I also have a Compag X1000 with about 5% light leakage is nearly perfect as the screen is very fine and beautiful better than my ASUS Z63A without any light leakage. With 40% light leakage, get Dell to replace it!

Maybe the poorer screens that Dell is using in their M1210 is the reason why they are giving the 30% off any Dell systems last week?!?! Oh, the AUO LCDs on the M1210 are poor??? Emm... wonder whether they've gone down in quality since those awesome AUO ones that Dell uses in the 700m....

corrado85, I've checked your post history, and you have a ton of posts in Dell forums which are just "it's A DELL" or some such idiotic remark which helps nobody. Why don't you go away? Otherwise, every time you post, we'll have to say, "Dude! It's Corrado. And he's an idiot!"

My XPS M1210 has slight light leakage but it's so minor I believe it will disappear after the screen breaks in...

my M1210 is supposed to arrive today. i'm excitedd!! not happy to hear that they are starting to use these sub-par screens in the XPS series, but if the screen does suck, i'm going to try to swap screens with my 700m because that screen is dam near perfect...
