m1210 LCD light leakage :( - Page 5

i'm pretty sure the auo displays are now standard. i recieved my m1210 about 3 days ago and it has the better display(checked with powerstrip). i haven't seen the worse screen, so i can't comment on it, but i really have no complaints with the AUO. looks great

Not sure if its standard. I just got mine delivered 2 days ago and it came with the SEC screen. Same thing for a friend of mine

D*** it. Now my headache continues again... I'll really appreciate if you guys can suggest to me whether I'll request for a new system replacement or just go with the parts (full LCD set, palm rest & keyboard)... Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine just got his m1210 with a "AUO3214" screen. Does anyone know if that is the same thing as the AUO "B121EW02" model?

Not sure about that one RogeR11, I doubt it by looking at the viewing angles on that one being 130/100 (H/V) those are too good for this particular screen, it must be the W01.

But SPEEDwithJJ, I highly suggest you contact Dell Chat Support and have them send out a new LCD, those seem to be the parts they are sending out for replacement since I got 2 AUO in a row in the week I had parts sent out.

NYCscorpio2000, thanks for the suggestion & I appreciate it. I'll make the decision latest by tomorrow morning if I'm going to call customer service for a system replacement.

C'mon guys, any other suggestions for me?

I am now almost COMPLETELY happy with my system... I hope a stiffer palmrest and keyboard come out soon, I'll probably replace those as well, but I have been able to minimize the flex on the right side of the keyboard and will try to make it flex even less hopefully.

I was thinking about buying some Blu Tack to stick under the keyboard & maybe it will greatly reduce the flex. Had used those for sticking pictures on the walls sometime ago & it works great but don't have an extras currently. Anyone have some & is willing to be the guinea pig & try some on the bottom of the keyboard?

Can be bought at amazon.com:

from what i've seen, i think you need something more in the area of a credit-card thick sheet of plastic to put directly under the bottom right area of the keyboard. for some reason the frame of the system is just slightly lower there which causes the flex. when i get some time i'll probably start messing arround with it, it shouldn't be hard to fix

i don't think the blu tack will work that well as over time its just going to get squished down more and more in that are you put it

flashback87, that's a good suggestion with the credit cards to even out the "unevenness" on the lower right side of the keyboard. May I suggest used gift cards in this case.

flashback87, you're also right that over time, the blu tack are probably gonna be squished flat & I'll have to redo it all over again. But I'm seriously considering this option & at least the great time about the blu tack is that they don't leave all sorts of messy residue when you take it off!

speed,

I wouldn't use blutack as then it heats up it will become runny and that would be very messy

What about modelers plastic sheets ? it comes in various thickness and is very easy to work with

Good point. I've never thought of that until you mention it...

I've decided to keep my M1210 but I am definitely going to get Dell to replace the screen. Will Dell send me a new LCD and let me swap myself or will I have to ship the whole laptop back for repair? Based on previous posts it sounds like they might just send the parts (I hope so). Can someone confirm this for me pls?

Edit: I just read another post that said Dell will send a refurb LCD replacement for a local tech to swap. Since I am in the 21 day return period, I'm thinking it would be better to return the whole system for a relacement. Should I swap the LCD or send the whole system back?

ugg,

I don't think Dell will let you change the part yourself I think you maybe better to return the whole system for replacement.

If people start to return them it may lead to them sorting these problems out

If you nag them politely on chat they will let you change the part out yourself, as for the refurbished parts, it's not really refurbished... just placed in a plain box instead of retail box so it has to be marked as such.

If I'm not wrong, it also depends on your warranty. If you have got the At-Home warranty, they'll definitely sent the parts to you if you request for such service. Service called POS (Parts Only Service). Good luck.

Forgot to post an update. I decided to go for a system replacement on Monday to solve those 3 issues of mine but I have to wait for some time as the AV package is currently out of stock. Wish me luck.
