I know asus has a brigade of 14" notebooks with dedicated gpu.

but are there any notebooks below 14" with dedicated gpu?

One thing that quickly came to mind was the Dell XPS M1210, with nVidia GeForce Go 7400, 256 MB.

Sony SZ series are 13.3" where you can switch between Intel GMA 950 for longer battery life or nVidia GeForce Go 7400 I believe

Check out the W7J. 13.3" with a geforce go 7400. Its to compete with the Sony SZ series

IMO, Asus almost always look better than Sony....

I'm not sure of an Asus but the Dell XPS M1210 comes to mind with it's 12" screen.

However, if you want a dedicated GPU, I assume you play games (or the likes), and really a 14" or up is definatly much better. But your choice.

between the

sony vaio SZ
Asus W7J
Dell xps 1210

which is cheaper and which is better?
Asus W7J has a 128 mb dedicated 7400 and is 13.3''
Sony SZ has a 128 mb dedicated 7400 and is also 13.3''
Dell M1210 has 64 dedicated 7400 and is 12.1''

The Dell is the cheapest if you get the right combination of coupons. the W7J runs between 1400-1500$ and the SZ is probably closer to 2000$.

Anybody know the benchmarks on the W7J's 7400? a lot of time difrent companies have the clocks at difrent speeds.

According to a review's information, the both of Asus W7J and Sony SZ get under 3 hrs battery life when using the nvidia gpu, bluetooth and wireless device. For Asus model, if the webcam is disabled and retested the battery,
it can last up to 3 hours 5 minutes.
Cheers

wow. really no one here has mentioned the upcoming A8Js? well i will. i'm looking at it myself because of dedicated graphics (7600 go! 512mb!!), C2D, and supposed 2gb of RAM. all in a nice 14" package. plus its 14"

i'm not sure what the pricing is going to be like on this badboy, but if its anywhere near the A8Jm (~$1500) i'd say its definitely worth taking a look at.

OH also, its got DVI. i haven't seen that in many laptops.

[eidt]: sorry didnt see you said below 14" yeah... um. good luck with that! IMHO though, i don't think its really worth it having a laptop that small with dedicated graphics. theres that tradeoff between size and power...i'm sure someone has a neat little graph somewhere.

well. ive done the monster laptop thing with a sager a while back..dont want to do too much hardcore three d gaming, but i wanted lightweight good graph card and even longer batterylife.

Good choices if i do say so myself.

Powerful anything (GPU included) does not go hand in hand with a small, long-lived computer. The more powerful the graphics card, the more power drain there will be - the energy to process all that data doesn't just come out of thin air. I'd say that for a smaller notebook, the 7400 is the highest you should go if you expect decent battery life.
