here is the screen from my first run 3D'05 stock, no AA

Default settings, nVidia drivers: 8,781 3DMarks
T2500 (2.00GHZ) | 1GB DDR2 (667MHZ) | 60GB HDD 7200RPM | 17" WUXGA | 256MB GeForce 7900 Go GS | XG 91.31 | Clocked @ 600/1200

Seems like I found the highest setting in BOOTDISK for 7900GTX, so I'll go ahead run another few tests:

T2500 (2.0 GHZ) | 2 GB DDR2 (667 MHZ) | 17" WUXGA (Samsung K3155) | 100 GB 7200 RPM | 512 MB 7900 Go GTX | | XTreme-G MobileForce 84.56-v2.40 | Clocks @ 650/725

3DMark05 default = 9724

3DMark05 4XAA = N/A mine is free version

3DMark06 default = 5776

CSS max setting 4XAA, 16XAF = 133.35 fps

This is base on out of box OS. I delete few program I will not use as WordPerfect...etc and install all the program I needed as MS Office...etc.

It seems the 7900GTX still has room to play with. Maybe up the Vcore +AS5.

4. Format for score submissions (borrowed from FlashSVT's thread):

Name: Score | CPU | Memory | Screen (brand optional but helpful) | HD Size & Speed | Video Card | Driver Version | Core/Memory/Voltage (applies only to 7900 GS cards)

**A SCREENSHOT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR RESULTS AND YOU MUST FOLLOW THE FORMAT EXACTLY IN THE ORDER LISTED! FALIURE TO DO SO WILL MEAN YOUR SCORE WILL BE IGNORED UNTIL YOU HAVE FOLLOWED THE FORMAT EXACTLY AS SHOWN ABOVE!**

Yeah... I am waiting to be posted too... I smoked the current 7900 GS record. Not that it was hard... lol...
post #45 of 159
my card seems a little slow, just upgraded to laptopvideo2go 91.37 drivers and ran 3dmark05 and got 8255 as a score. Then I OC'd it to 600/700 and it crashed during 3dmark so i downclocked it to 550/700 and got 8793. Nothing else is running in the background. Maybe the drivers need to go

I would drop the mem and increase core like 600/600 to 600/620. It should score around 8800 to 8900

**NVIDIA GEFORCE G0 7800 VANILLIA, 7800GTX, 7900GS MINI-REVIEW***

These are the best scores I have gotten using different configs and upgrades to try to give everyone an idea of the performance difference between 7800 Vanilia OC w/gtx bios-->"a real"7800 GTX OC-->7900GS OC w/1.24mod. After all upgrading done I have e1705 w/T2600&7900GS and my wife's 9400 w/T2500 &and a real dual pipe 24pp 7800 GTX

CPU/Video card config temps 3dmark05 3dmark06
----------------------------------------------------------------------
T2300 w/7800(450/1200) 93-94 5504 3988
T2500 w/7800(450/1200) 94 6205 4110
T2500 w/78GTX(430/1200) 86-88 7386 4605
T2600 w/79GS(600/1200) 82-86 8967 5035
T2600 w/79GS(625/1250) 88 9104 Never tried
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Higest\Safest Clock that I felt my 9400 with my real 7800GTX was 430/1200, and the best setting so far for my e1705 w/7900GS is 600/1200, unless someone tries a diffrent volt mod try to get the GS near the 650/1300 range (if possible) I'm staying with it. Before I bought my new laptop I was skeptical about the 7900GS compareing to the 7800 GTX, I was shocked how high it overclocked even with 20pipes it gets 2000 more points than the 7800GTX, I would love to get my hands on a 7900GTX and tinker around with it, but i am yet to even hear let alone see, one for sale by itself. For now I'm very happy with near 9000 point scoring card, My desktop 4400+/1800xtOC gets 9722 in 05' 4783 in 06' So i am extremly impressed with these laptops nearing my desktop in 05' and somehow beating my desktop in 06', now if i can find someone to buy my desktop I'd be even happier to help me get out of debt for buying these 2 laptops,LOL Hope everyone found this helpfull, thanx!

***UPDATE 7/22/06***
Originally, I sold my go 7800 vannila for $249 and bought a New 7800GTX for $275 costing me $25 for the upgrade, for my girls 9400 and now:
I Sold my 7900gs volt modded 1.24v GTX bios (600/1200) card for $269.95 and used that money to buy a Brand new 512MB 7900GTX for exactly $500 so I ended up costing $230 for me. The card should arriave Sat. and I will do some tweaking right away maybe 600/1400 or 650/1400 and run some tests, so I will refine this review and repost it with the new results, I cant wait to see the difference not only in synthetic bench test, but realtime game testing FPS & performance. This will be the last $$$ I spend on my laptops unless the T2700 CPU really dropps in price. And since my new laptop config will most likly outproform my desktop, i may sell it as a whole or part it for sale. I hope this review help people in getting an idea of the performace jumps between the vid cards and cpu before going out and buying them. I also want to say thanks to everyone who helped me through all these treads through the past few weeks, thanx all!

Ok results have been updated as promised. Remember to follow the format exactly as I've outlined in the first post otherwise your scores will not be posted. Furthermore, 7900 GS scores are accepted so kindly read the first page if you are confused about this!. Also, to run 4xAA enabled 3dmark05 scores, simply turn on 4xAA in the nvidia control panel, you don't need the full version of 3dmark05.

Well poped in the 7900GTX today and clocked it to 600/1400 ran the first few tests never went higher than 82' ran atitool for about 30min got very very little artifacts here and there but not constint, I'm going to assume that 600 will be the highest the core will go but i am going to try the memory at 1450 a little later.
3DMark05 9640 (DEFAULT)
3DMark06 5640 (1280x1024)
3DMark06 5362 4xAA 8xAF (1280x1024)

Not to bad there was gains from my 7900GS(600/1200) but the card really shines through in realtime gaming thats when you see the 24pp/8 and 512MB take in at 1920x1200 greatly more when using AA & AF, I will do some more testing and clocking as time goes on.

quick reference... what are the stock clocks on the GTX?
post #53 of 159
Stock clocks are 500/1200 on the 7900GTX at 1.24v

I am tired of finding how to enable 4xaa in nvidia control panel.... I change it, but in 3DMark05 still not shows 4XAA..... I give up.
post #55 of 159
calstar,

It is not going to show 4x AA in 3dMark. When the option is set thru the nVidia CP, it will run it via drivers....

what do u mean???

Ok, here goes.....

When you turn on AA thru the nvidia control panel to whatever setting you want, it affects all applications globally.

For instance, if you use the CP to set 4xAA, then run a game (say quake 4, for instance). It doesn't matter if you set the option in quake 4 to use AA, it was already set thru the CP; therefore, AA is being used by the graphics card.

Same thing applies to 3dMark.....

Hope this helps!
post #58 of 159
never mind. found the key to upgrade both 05 and 06. now, running the test with 4XAA in 3DMark 05 itself.

These are my latest test scores running 7900GTX@ 600/1400 1.24v, with xtreme mobileforce 91.31-2.40a drivers max temp I have ever hit playing for 2+ hours or more is 80'-82' idle is around 45'-55' depending on room temps.
3DMark05 = 9640 (default)
3DMark06 = 5501 (defeult for WUXGA+ is 1280x1024)
3DMark06 = 5387 (4xAA\8AF)(1280x1024)

Best scores when i had my single pipe 7900GS (600\1200) 1.24v mod, max temp 86':
3DMark05 = 8967
3DMark06 = 5035

Best Scores on my 9400 w/T2500 & 7800GTX (430\1200) max temp 89'
3DMark05 = 7426
3DMark06 = 4532 (WXGA+ 1280x800 Default)

Best Scores on my 9400 w/T2500 & when it had the 7800Vanilia (450/1200 vid5-1.24v) Max temps 93'94' Idle 68'
3Dmark05= 6205
3DMark06= 4403 (WXGA+ 1280x800 Default)

As you can see from above my old 7800GS did very well when overclocked not to far behind my 7900GTX, But in my option when you play realtime gaming you see a major FPS jump & performace jump. I kept my 7800GTX in my 9400 istead of putting in my 7900GS because i felt even tho the clocks were slower the 24pp realy shine thru in gamepaly and in most games my 7800GTX yeilded higher FPS than my 7900GS.
I sold my 7800 vanilia for $249.00 on ebay 2 weeks ago &
I sold my 7900GS (single pipe) (I sold it OC'ed 600/600) for $269.00 2 days ago. Bought my 7800GTX Brand New for $270 & my Brand New 7900GTX for $499 Total $$ out of my pocket for both upgrades were $250, I feel it was worth it to have 2 great gaming laptops for me & my Girl, very pleased now.
