e1505 Bios problem: A05

Thread Starter
posting for a friend. He's getting no action over on the dell forums.

issue: Well, I installed the A05 BIOS (going from A03) and since that time, my system runs much warmer than before and the fan runs much more often than before. There is also a bit of a vibration in the area where my hands rest when typing that wasn't there before the BIOS update.

Unfortunaetly, I can only find the A04 on the website and that didn't change anything either.

Any good advice?

Sounds to me like the latter BIOS revision changes the temperature at which fans are activated... it has to be hotter, and of course the hotter the laptop the longer the fans will take to cool it back down (hence seems like fans are on more). Easy fix, play around with a nice little program called fanGUI, which you can change around the level at which fans will turn on/off to your liking:

As for vibration... any BIOS change would not have anything to do with that. Could be something come loose and is vibrating a bit inside or something, kinda need a bit more info there.

I can't really say I noticed any difference in temps and or fan speed going from A04 to A05.

In fact I noticed no differences at all other than the boot up screen now says A05.

I also noticed an increase in heat since Bios A05. But this is fixed in A06. A new bios which is online for over a week now. try installing A06. No wonder A06 is marked critical.

A06 isn't available any longer ... (at least it wasn't an hour ago)

Had the same problem in Windows XP. Bij running the Biosupdate tool in compatibilty mode I was able to install the bios. Rightmousebtn on the bios-update tool, go to tab compatibilty. Select Run this program in compatibilty mode for: Windows 2000.

A06 can be downloaded in Europe.

Generally there is no need to update the bios unless you are having a hardware issue of some sort. Usually bios updates are released to fix specific problems or add support for more hardware, so unless you have a problem or are planning to change hardware (not likely, but technically possible) you should be fine leaving things as they are.

A07 is available on Dell's US site now as well. I upgraded to it last night, and it works fine.

what about drivers should you manually be updating those as well?
