Desert Camouflage Paintjob on old Dell Laptop - Page 2

Here are the stencils that I used to paint it.
I printed them out in black and white and then cut out the stencil with an exacto knife and went to town.

I used a stiff paper, slim cardboard to trace them onto and cut them out.

I got them from http://www.militarymorons.com/

Just painted with a tan base coat of paint, then lay down the template and spray with white, camo tan, camo brown.
Moved the template a few inches down and did it again.
Did this for the whole laptop until I was happy with the pattern and it dried in 10 minutes.
Did the whole thing in one pass/coat without waiting for it to dry.
Took the laptop apart, painted and reassembled in less than 2 hours.
Really easy to do.

Did you whipe down the laptop with any hardcore cleaner before you painted? Did you clearcoat it?

I am just worried about the paint coming up where you rest your hands/etc.

You did an excellent job on the digi-camo! Looks great!

Would this void my warranty???

Nope, just used some rubbing alcohol and gave it a coat of the base paint.
I used the Krylon Fusion spray paint for the first overall base coat.

I didn't clear coat it, its dull, flat camo paint afterall.

I would think if you take it apart to paint it, it will void the warranty.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I could do better..... j/k

no.. .for real, that is a kick ass job. Maybe in a year or so, when my new lid gets scratched, I will look into a paint job. Youre right it isnt hard to do as long as you know how to use a spray can and add a little patience... That krylon base paint you use rocks... it doesnt come up at all... Specially designed for these purposes.

In a couple of your pics (especially when you have the base on your garage floor) it looked like a grease spot.... or started blending well. I would LOVE to see you put it in a desert enviro... maybe next to a military humvee and WEAPONS... lots of WEAPONS... Your lappy deserves a glamour shot like that.

Good job and thank god your lappy didnt turn out like this one:

Awesome job!

Those "wilderness" laptop pics made me laugh.

Like seeing a wild breed in it's natural habitat or something

Looks sweet.

Related: I had contacted Krylon a few months ago about clearing over the Fusion paint and they said: "no". Even with the opp to sell me more product they declined indicating none of their clears worked with the Fusion paint.

Not sure if thats changed or if they are wrong but I didnt try clearing over the paint.

Now I need to find me a couple of cans of spray paint that match the new Army ACU colors and paint something else.
I for one think your work is Impressive, as a matter of fact im sure there are lots of people out there who would like to cammo their computers but are afraid to, you could offer a postal they pay all to have their pride and joy painted, with your talent it could be a nice little earner?
