If you receive a PM, then the "Private Messages: Unread 0, Total 132." part of the user block on the right disappears. Only way to get to your inbox is by going to your control panel.

Also I just noticed, I have 4 benchmarks that I've done on the same system. (4 different programs) yet it still only says Benchmarks: 2 under my name.

I fixed the private messages so it displays and also highlights in red.

It shows 4 under your name now. The counters update every time an admin checks off scores, so new benchmarks added won't show until there checked.

Info disappears when editing a review and I'm not able to submit benchmarks (though I really don't have any)

Ok cool. Now someone send me a PM so I can see what it looks like. Someone else told me it would probably take till the next day for the benchmark total to update. Which it did! Thanks! On another note: I sometimes get a timeout occurred when I attempt to come here. As soon as Firefox tells me the site timed out, I hit refresh and it displays almost instantly. Only seems to happen when I first come to the site, not every time either.

What do you mean you're not able to submit benchmarks?

You can send PM's to yourself unless you think you're too cool .

I fixed up the colors and added boxes for benchmark graphs on the review pages:
http://www.notebookforums.com/Alienw...p-reviews.html

Some of the pages are messed up still. I plan to add an order by for laptop average-benchmark scores. You could do sorting by video card, weight etc.. that would be cool.

I'm also in the middle of writing an XML contextual ad targetting system for notebookforum's with an XML sitemap for google - it's a big project and will use the tabbed navigation to show google the structure of our site.

I have a Question for you Shaun.

With the Rep system - and the 24 hour regen time, would it not be possible to reset everyones rep at the same time each day IE at 24:00 hours Server time.

this present system invaribley leads to an contuinuosly changing Rep window. A constant time would be so much easier to work with.

How you still be limited to 10 each day if you repped at 11 pm & then reset at midnight you could only rep 10 more times after the reset time unitl the next reset at midnight ??

It shouldn't be based on days. It should be based on the user.

the present system is based on the usage of each forum member. Standardizing the "rep reset" time would be less fair than the current system, especially for those repping around midnight Central time. The only advantage you'd gain from such a standardization is that you wouldn't have to remember when you used all your reps last. Basically, the only reason standardizing would have a practical advantage is for those trading all their reps to avoid a slight inconvenience. An easier way to accomplish this without the need to change forum settings is for you to rep people when you first sign in each day and then then next time you sign in, look at your public profile, which tells you the last time you signed in.

I still don't see it being abused if the rep system reset on a daily basis, instead of a per user basis. It would also limit the strain on the database, since it wont have to keep up with when each user used it's reps.

The time will reset at a set time, such as midnight. So even if someone happened to rep at 11:50 ten times, then again at 12:00 ten more times, they will then have to wait another 24 hours before they can rep again.

So say instead of them waiting till the next 24 hours, they wait the next 47 hours and do the same thing again. The amount of time between the reps are still the same.

The rep system essentially is abused far worse anyway. No one gives reputation on the quality of the post the poster makes anyway. It's more of just a game.

Also the ones who should be allowed to rep are the ones who have less than 100 posts, those are usually the members who sign up needing help, get help from someone and they should be allowed to give the user who helped them with there problem some reputation for the time. However, I know alts can severely abuse that system as well.

Well, they are new users that will rep posters that respond back with informative inout. Sure, they are simply grey dots with flimsy points, but these are cool!

I do rep new users that drop in, with a brilliant input to NBF out of the bag. Granted, it probably does not mean much since I have low reps myself, but it sure will make the newbies feeling welcome and at home.

cheers ...

I just noticed that when I follow a link to a specific post in a thread (for example, the first unread post), the page title on my browser gives the thread title, but then starts quoting the post itself. Before the reset, it just stated the thread title and then Notebookforums.com.
