Skipping M140...

Decided to play some old school games today on my M140 and was surprised at the results. While playing both Total Annihilation and Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, the animation on screen would freeze for a second every 10-15 seconds, like the machine couldn't handle it. I have a decent processor and 2 GB of memory. What the heck...I only have 30 processes running!

The machine is routinely kept free of spyware and viruses, and I used CCleaner daily. It has been defragged recently. Any ideas?

hmmm that seems a bit odd, even though our grpahics, we would think could handle it hey.

hey same thing happened to me when viewing a DVD movie from Blockhunter. Any advise, I also have a decent CPU not O.C. and 1gb of ram. Whats going on, how do I fix this!

I don't know what to say, other than I am suprised anyone still plays Total Annihilation and Red Alert 2!
Go old school gamers.
But could is posibly have something to do with an incompatablity issue with Windows XP?
Or posibley with the intergarted graphics chipset?
I mean I know they are way easy to run, but I don't know anything else that might cause the problem.

RA2 can play in XP no problem.

TA runs pretty well, but RA2 should have no problems. It runs on my desktop machine which has intel extreme graphics

Well, do you have all the right drivers?

Yes, latest Intel drivers are running for graphics. Latest dell drivers for everything else.

Maybe a skipping CD player?
Hmm...I will install them later tonight and try
Both RA2, YR, and TA

UPDATE:
So I played RA2 on both my laptop and my desktop.
No skipping.
If you are playing online, then maybe it is your internet connection?

However, I found that it seems to be imposible to set up a LAN game of RA2 for me, which is kinda sad because I was looking forward to LANing with my friends.

Not online, just playing single player. CD Player is fine, as it does this same thing with videos that are playing off the HD. I think I may call Dell (4 months of warranty left).

Yeah, I am out of ideas.

CPU will go full throttle (1.86 GHz). Bad motherboard I'm thinking...

Well does stuff like this happen in any other programs?

Yes, all the time. Hesitation in Word, playback of video on the web, even the start menu. It happened even before a full reformat. It's like it'll freeze for a split second and then continue frequently in almost everything I do. It's very annoying. If anything, it'll play MP3s fine in WMP.

Well thats very odd, my friend is also having problems with RA2 and YR running. Apparently they used to run, and now RA2 has skipping, and YR won't start, yet I haven't had problems running them. I really need to figure this weird problem out...maybe it is compatible with XP Pro, but now MCE?
