1GHz Apple iBook worth $407 CAD?

Thread Starter
Someone recently inform me about a 2nd hand ibook sale

Stats:

1Ghz G4
512Mb Ram
30GB Hard drive
Combo Drive
No Wireless
12" 1024 X 768 Screen
No warranty - sold as is final sale
$407 with tax. (CAD)

Is it worth it?
I plan to do mulimedia on it mostly, photoshop, Corel Painter, Mp3/DVDBook

some boring stuff like MS Word, excel, MYOB

nothing "intense".

I would prefer 1gb of ram (can it be done?), and a superdrive, and if it isnt too expensive, a slighty bigger harddrive.

with those upgrades I purpose, would I be better off with a 1.33 ibook?

also, what kinda wifi solution would I find with that 1gb ibook? i believe it doesnt have a pci / airport expansion?
wifi USB key 2 go?

any insights be helpful, esp if u have previous/current experience with the g4 ibook (1ghz)

thankies.

407 isn't bad at all. i actually would have expected 500-600. i think u can get 1.25GB in there, but double check. the 256 is soldered into the system to u just have to add onto it, mind u there's only one phsyical add-on slot available so u'd have to buy a single stick of 1GB. should be a very decent system for your needs especially w/ the extra RAM in there.

hmm, i forget when they started making the wifi standard in the iBooks, but I think the 1Ghz one MIGHT have it since the 1.2Ghz ones had it standard. in any case, yes there should be an available slot in there for the wireless.

the caveat is that if u want to do the superdrive and HD along w/ the RAM, you'll be close to $300 (US) in upgrades, at which point a spankin new macbook might be more in order for the $. if it lacks the aiport extreme card than that's another $60+ in hardware, and at that point it'd be silly to not point u in the direction of a new macbook.

i am with triadone on this, AS-IS its a great deal, if you're gonna start tapping on the upgrades (ram, wifi, hdd) you're better off looking at something new.

you are probably right about the upgrades, I guess I'll be happy with what it has.

btw
Is there a airport expansion slot? How much does the card go for and where can I pick one up?
(guide on installing one would be great)

edit: n/m I found one.
