hey all-im new here and to the whole computer world so excuse my improper use of lingo.

im entering as a college student next year and like every other incoming freshman-i'm looking for a laptop to buy. ive been researching for the past week but its pretty difficult to find the perfect laptop when everyone gives such conflicting reviews as well as not knowing anything at all about laptops heh

my basic requirements are:
LIGHTWEIGHT (preferably 4-5 lbs)
has an internal DVD/CD drive (as well as a CD burner-DVD burner is optional)
has a decent battery life (3-4 hours)
12-14 inch screen
media card reader
80+ GB harddrive
1 GB of ram
and most importantly, something that wont crap out on me the minute i take it to college- 3 hours from home in the middle of nowhere

ideally, i want it to last me through my 4 years of undergrad. i'll probably be using it just for typing/taking down notes, cd (and maybe dvd burning), watching movies, storing my digital pics and some light gaming.

so far, my parents have said that price isnt a problem but i dont want to spend extra money on something like a sony vaio which has a million extra things i dont want/need/use. but i dont want to buy something cheap that will break down quickly.

with these requirements in mind, i searched and discovered something that seems too good to be true:
the toshiba satellite U205-5002

it seems to have everything i want at such a reasonable price ($1200). its so reasonable that im suspicious. i read that this has only recently appeared on the market, which may explain the lack of reviews on the laptop.

anyway, so i was wondering what everyone's view on this laptop is and what everyone's experience with toshiba has been (im extremely conflicted on what to believe because i have one cousin who loathes toshiba while another who gives the highest praises)

here is the link to the specifics:

Also,
I went to the Apple store today and fell in love with the Macbook. In fear of sounding like a ditz: its just so pretty!
Plus, the price seems reasonable at $1200 and a free nano with it!
But the school im going to isnt "mac-friendly" and ive been a pc user my entire life.
What are your opinions on getting the macbook versus this toshiba versus any other suggestions you may have

Thanks soo much for all your help and sorry for the long post!
