Dell 1300 Mini-PCI Card in IBM R40?

Hi,

A question for anybody who has had experience with this...just purchased a barebones IBM Thinkpad R40 with no wireless options. IBM doesn't offer a 802.11g option when building this lappy so I elected to go without as my home network is running pure 11g with 11b disabled.

Can I use the Dell 1300 mini-PCI card in the IBM R40? I'd rather go mini-PCI rather tha PCMCIA as I can't stand having that big nubbin sticking out of the side of my computer.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

TIA.

Im not sure if the R40 has the correct antena plugs to fit in a True Mobile 1300 you would banking on if the R40 does you would be the first to try it

I think I've found the answer and it's not good

Also, BTW, sorry for posting this in the Dell forums...thought I was in the general forums....my bad.

In any case...seems IBM likes to lock their BIOS to only accept approved mini-PCI cards which inlcude only 1 of 3 mini-PCI cards.

They are:

IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter
Cisco Aironet wireless 802.11b MiniPCI by IBM
Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter by IBM

Bah! Only way to get g is to use IBM's overpriced card. Maybe it'll be PC card for me after all.
