Touchpad looses settings on restart

Hi,

I have an e1405 that is about a month old. It has always had a problem with retaining the settings for my touchpad pointer acceleration. Everything is fine as long as I keep hibernating when not using the computer. But whenever I have to actually restart the machine, my touchpad settings go back to the defaults.

Of course I click apply -> ok whenever I make a change. Does anyone have any idea of how to fix this problem? I just spent over an hour on the phone with dell tech support and got absolutely nowhere. She reinstalled the synaptics driver a couple of times to no avail.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Derek

what about the clock, does it reset back to 12? if so, then you need a new bios battery.

but if its just the touchpad, id uninstall/reinstall the drivers.

I doubt its the cmos battery

The clock doesn't reset when restart. As a matter of fact, the only issue is the touchpad, no other settings are lost on a restart.

I've tried uninstalling the driver, and downloading the latest and reinstalling to no avail.

I'm hoping someone else has some other ideas.

Logitech SetPoint was the problem

I found that once I uninstalled the logitech SetPoint software that came with my bluetooth mouse, that the synaptics driver began working properly again. So right now I'm running with no customizations for my external mouse, but it seems to be working fairly well inspite of that.

maybe the BT mouse software over rides any changes you make. ?
