Fact is, putting audio ports in the front of a notebook is stupid! A lot of people use their computers at the same time they have external speakers connected to them. The last thing I want is to have a cable running out in front of me, underneath my wrists while I'm working on a computer. It was a bad decision, plain and simple! Sorry you are so sensitive. I didn't realize you were the CEO of HP!
I agree that putting the ports on the front isn't a good idea.... Fact is you seem to complain about every little thing.... Your last system going back because the stickers were on crooked. http://www.notebookforums.com/post2299558.html If you think so lowly of HP, you need to just go and buy a DELL like you were talking about in one of your previous posts. Before doing so you'd better read-up on persons going thru 3-4-5-6... 9 screen replacements!!!!.... and all the other problems... Besides it appearing getting a "good" screen is really a crap shoot with the numbers stacked against you from the get-go... 10,000 to 1 .... One "little" problem being Dell's catching on fire, that DELl knew for two years before issuing a recall. http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/20/d...s-before-reca/ DELL laptop.... notice that the stickers are all on straight...

Does anyone know if the dv9000z will have a PCMCIA slot? It may be in the demo but my eyes are not that good. Thanks.

I don’t think it has the PCMCIA slot any more, I am pretty sure it only has the PCI express slot now.

WeAreNotAlone: Calm down. I don’t get the impression that Sseadoubleyou was trolling with his post just stating an opinion. No reason to turn the HP board into the Dell board where everyone is jumping down each other’s throats. No need to attack Dell notebooks or Dell owners, I own one and it’s never caught on fire, and the screen is just fine. I also plan on trying another HP when Core 2 Duo comes out.

Oh no!! one laptop out of how many laptops Dell has sold caught on fire? Wow, everyone is now at serious risk!!!!

And I'd love for you to find 5 topics on here, where people have had to go through 9 screen replacements.

My i5150 has given me a total of about 6 days of problems in the last 2.5 years. I am pretty impressed that Dell fixed an out of warranty computer with a known design flaw.

Since you seem interested in dissecting my posts why don’t you repost my experience with a dv8000t that had a flickering screen and kept crashing the same day it arrived?

HP doesn’t need you to verbally harass or belittle every person that expresses dissatisfaction with their products, no mater how much you may disagree with the reason they are displeased with an HP product.

I don’t see anything in Sseadoubleyou’s post about crooked stickers being the reason he returned the notebook, I am pretty sure his post says he returned it because the hard drive cover was warped. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a new notebook to come with unwarped plastic panels. It seems to me that the mention of the crooked stickers was to illustrate a lack of quality control at the HP manufacturing center, not to cite an actual product defect.

There’s nothing wrong with being partial to one brand but there’s no reason to be a crazy fan boy, remember we are only talking about laptop computers, and your implication that Dell computers are prone to catching on fire and that they all have terrible displays makes you sound dangerously similar to a crazy fanboy.

Let's just talk about the laptops here, as the topic states. Sseadoubleyou doesn't like HPs and has had problems. Wearenotalone has enjoyed his and has no problems.

The only thing for sure here is that no matter what laptop brand, there are horror stories for all of them. The trick is finding one that makes YOU happy. There are a lot of choices, but this world is already screwed up enough without us computer freaks arguing over which laptop brand is better. I don't come here for that anyhow. I am here to get as much information about every brand I'm interested in so I can make a knowledgeable decision when I buy a laptop. That means I want to hear the good and the bad from as many people as possible.

I know that Wearenotalone has come off strongly here, but maybe it is because he feels very strongly that his laptop is a good one. Let's leave it at that and get back to discussing these new HPs coming out. Also, let's keep in mind that Wearenotalone has taken a lot of time in the past to help other folks with laptop questions, and not just concerning HP laptops.

So how about pricing? Anyone know what the 6000/9000 will retail?
Well you can check out the dv6000 on the HP site right now, and I posted a link earlier this week that said the base price for the Dv9000 is going to be $1349.

All bitching aside, kudos to "We" for providing the links. If nothing else, the introduction of the dv9000 will lower the price of the venerable dv8000t. We all win.

250 Swedish crowns per month for three years, the company pays the other 60% of the price

I agree.

The dv9000 may be my next replacement for my outdated zd8000 CTO. Now if HP would just put the Express Card for wireless on their site that works on Verizon's network, I'd be all set. I have one of their PC cards, but it takes up my pcmcia slot where I park my remote. How dare they?

I'd trade a place to park the remote, when the slot is occupied...

For a HANDLE built into the unit. Handle and maybe some posts that a strap could attach to.

Many years ago "laptops/notebooks" came with built in handles.

I bet you at some point there was a back-room meeting... Someone suggesting that if they took the handles off it would increase sales of replacement units/parts, and the sales of cases.
(when people drop it- You have to buy another )

While cases are needed for the power brick, etc... alot of times it would be nice to have a "real" handle when moving a unit from place to place. A "pop-out" handle could be put along the backside of the unit... and it wouldn't take up too much room, nor add that much weight.

Much like the Dell XPS M2010, ya?

Anyone know when the Intel version of the 6000 is coming out? Are they waiting for the Core Duo 2?

Maybe more in line with say an Apple IIC of 1988 which had:

"A fold out carrying handle that doubled as a way to prop up back end of the machine to angle the keyboard for typing, if desired."

Notice that the handle does double duty, You can use it to carry the machine, OR use it to angle the back of the machine UP... to angle the keyboard....

Besides having something to hold onto (a real handle), Notice how when the handle is in the postion to angle the back of the machine up it would greatly increase airflow.

My father worked at IBM throughout my entire childhood and we had one of these, http://oldcomputers.net/ibm5155.html , it was “portable” and came with a handle, probably because the only way to move it without the handle was to use a hand truck, 4.77 mhz of pure power, but I am pretty sure that ours only had one floppy drive. Needless to say that I get a shiver every time I think of a laptop with a handle.

Needless to say that I get a shiver every time I think of a laptop in which the screen alone, just the display costs on the base model $941 and for the 1680x1050 $956 that does NOT have a handle... something to hold onto on a hot summer day.. wonder how the "new" finish of the new units is going to be in that respect? 403796-001 $941.00 17.0-inch WXGA+ TFT WVA bright view (BV) display panel - Features the glossy bright view (BV) technology - With 1490 x 900 resolution (up to 16.7M colors internal) (Pavilion) 403797-001 $956.00 17.0-inch WSXGA+ TFT WVA bright view (BV) display panel

Does anyone have some idea as to when the DV9000 would be available for purchase?

That's one of the models I'm looking at.
