The Hardest $3000 dollars ive ever spent
Well here is the whole laptop story from start to finish, it is quite long because it is something out of a movie my wife keeps telling me.
Started off with the Sager 19' screen with SLi Dual Geforce 7800 GTX's w/the Turion 64 processor and 2 gig ram w/ 100 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, i wanted to run anything out there and then some. Thus after 2 hours of working on it the screen started to lose colors and fade, black became green and brown became red, also the SLi had a hardware issue where the video cards were not talking or in sync, Red lines would cover the screen and based on what antalasing mode you chose where different pattern of lines. Returned to Manufacturer no questions asked.
Second Sager was a 17' with one video card because i didnt really want to deal with the new SLi techonology over in Iraq. This one was a AMD Dual Core X2 4200 series with same Hard Drive and the Geforce 7900 GTX. This computer worked great for about 10 days. I was burning a DVD and the computer just shut off. Now it will not turn back on, its friday night and there is noone available to troubleshoot or give an RMA number. Finally get ahold of Sager and they ask for a return no questions asked. Now it is two weeks before deployment and i have no laptop.
Lets go with Dell, big company might be easier to send overseas for problems because its a larger company. Put an order in for a Custom XPS with all the stuff in the Sagers but with the 512mb 7900 GTX and a Core Duo as the processor. First off i am moving homes so my wife can go to school closer in Raleigh. So i have no actual land line, little did i know you cannot order from Dell without a land line. Placed the order with a cell phone and a different shipping address and billing address (new and old house) So i am redflagged for possible fraud, they cancel my order which was for next day delivery after they build it. So i check my order the next day and they say they need to verify my phone number. Well we have an account with Bell south but for some reason our number they gave us as our phone number is not working, ok, verify with a work number? well i work at a hangar and we have no work number, ok, wife's work number? nope she is a student and has no number. ok, how about your parents number .....oh that number is unlisted, ok, the wife's parents phone number? nope that is unlisted too. .........Finally i call bell south and get the number turned on and in the directory, Now Dell says they need me to call them from that land line, that wastes a whole day. Finally get to the new place plug the phone in and there is no dial tone.....ok, call Bell south and now there is a problem with the phone line, they need to come out and fix it and the earliest is the next day. That wastes another day. By now i am way outside the window it would take to build ship and recieve this laptop before i am gone.
Now lets try Alienware
, the company i wanted to originally wanted to go with but they are so expensive....but they have dropped prices on some of their rigs so i have been looking at some of those, but they do not offer next day shipping and the gentleman on the phone says it is between 3-5 business days....well 5 days is a week, and they build a little faster than Dell but it still has a build time....so now Alienware is out.
Here i am still no laptop and have spent the same $3000+ dollars multiple times. I have never been so frustrated in my entire life, trying to play with shipping dates and business days to get this thing before i am out of here is stressful.
Last hope is to get a computer that is already built that can do some of what i wanted.....looking at the Toshiba Qoismo or whatever its called.
And i know when i get over there there is going to be some people with Sager's, Alienware's and Dell XPS's and they probably will get a jealous/angered look from me, but after this i cant help it......
feel free to point and poke fun
