E1505 Graphics.....

Why are they so bad?

This is a really good system except you cannot get a decent graphics card in it. The x1400 is better than the new offer of the Go 7300, but at the same time, the x1400 is pretty weak itself.

They offer the Go 7900GS in the E1705 and it WOULD fit in the E1505 (maybe cooling is an issue?), but they don't offer it. I don't necessarily want the 7900, but I would like a card better than the ones they offer.

its all about marketing.

but i agree i mean dell should offer a decent gaming graphics solution for the 15.4 /e1505 powerusers..

i wouldnt say the x1400 is pretty weak, it is simply mediocre for todays standards, if ur a hardcore gamer then yes the x1400 could be considered weak, but you chose the wrong computer in the first place, because the e1505 isnt a gaming laptop obviously.

I second that

Would the e1505/6400 be able to run games such as San Andreas, NFS Most Wanted, maybe Halo?

Thanks
Yes, just don't expect to run them all at the highest possible settings. Many games will run well if people don't go overboard with their expectations by not turning on every option. Half-Life 2 will even run, as well as Doom 3.

HL2 and doom 3 run on high settings

anyone know if its better to run the x1400 with only the 128mb of dedicated ram or with the 256mb of hypermemory?
also will HL2 run better on a e1505 (x1400) with a 1.66ghz Core Duo or a 1.86ghz Core Solo?

Well Im gonna go with the dedicated ram. Just because its on the gpu, and doesnt require more cpu cycles. The hypermemory i found out uses a little more cpu cycles. I havent really seen a game out, that would use all 256MB. Most are still only using close to 128MB

What are the specs on the 7300 vs X1400?

You can see the basic specs if you click "Help me choose" on the Dell website. However, what they fail to mention is that the x1400 is entirely dedicated while the 7300 uses system memory.
The X1400 will use system memory too, if it needs to beyond its own 128mb.

Essentially the dedicated memory is used first and then if needed the system memory is then put into service. I would bet that system memory is only used when the need arises and thus it more than likely happens when the use of that system memory would speed things along rather than slow them down.

Ultimately this is all moot since it doesn't seem that disabling system memory is an option.

on my 1505 with the x1400, i have F.E.A.R. installed and can play at medium settings with just about everything turned on and that is one heck of a graphics intensive game and it looks good, there is no real lag....except once in awhile, it will "stutter" for some reason, but that only lasts a couple of seconds.

Only game wont work is Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter cuz laptop cards are not supported

I agree, in terms of performance Dell has a big gap in their product lineup. You go right from the entry level discrete graphics 7300/7400, X1300/X1400 on the e1505 and M1210, all the way to a 7900GS on the e1705, and 7900GTX on the e1710. What dell is missing is a system with a X1600 or 7600, dell should be able to design a 14 or 15 inch notebook that can cool these adequately.

a 1600 or 7600 in the 1505 would be most excellent. I can make do with the x1400, but the extra kick the extra pipes would give would be most appreciated. Everything else about this laptop rocks. I'd pay good money to have better graphics in it.
