New Dell Inspiron 6400

Thread Starter
I recwntly brought a Dell Inspiron 6400 for £450 admittedly its the most basic configuration you could get
bog standard 15.4 inch widescreen (matt Finish) 1280 X 800
bog standard Intel intergrated GPU
60GB Sata Seagate hard drive
512MB DDR2 SODIMMS
8 X DVD rewriter
Duo Core 1.66Ghz Intel
Im quite pleased with the machine I had to uninstall a load of crapware to make it run the way I wanted to. including getting rid of Mcfee AntiVirus, it slowed my machine down so much that on boot up i could have made a cup of tea whilst it was booting up.
I found out to my dismay that the machine doesn't come with restore disk, and that the image is on a hidden partition on the OEM hard drive. Fine if you think that the hard drive is going to last forever or that you will never upgrade to a larger hard drive.
So you guys out there can you give me a step by step account of how you managed to install the OS on another hard drive. Did you use Nortons ghost for instance. I have emailed Dell about a restore disk, I havn't had a reply.
further more if I was to upgrade my OS to professional then how do I get the sata disk which allow me to install the OS onto a new hard drive, any advise will be appreciated

I had recently bought a new Dell 6400, but my brother did format totally HDD, and I can't recovery my system. I'd like a recovery of dell 6400 with Windows media centre edition 2005. Please help me?

Give Dell support a call and ask for the operating system / restore disk. The reinstall question has been answered here many times. I think there is even a reinstall guide. A search for reinstall of the various dell forums should produce helpful results.
