Integrated is NOT the same hardware as Audigy in M1210

7:30:36 PMXPS Rep Wayne it is still integrated but its not the same as the non audigy

Hmmm....interesting. Maybe we can get pic's from you owners that have both options..
I can assure you that that Audigy stuff is nothing more than special Creative Labs software package that gives you SOFTWARE EAX. It's the same sound chip weather you order it or not.

P.S. Dell tech support people are morons when it comes to knowing what's actually in the systems. As a general rule they don't know their butt from a hole in the ground when it comes to hardware. Chat and tech support is the LAST people you should be asking.

Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™ HD Software Edition [add $25 or $1/month1]

This is straight from Dells M1210 configuration page. If you want to believe that it's hardware, that's your choice. It's been covered many times here and SoundBlaster will only charge you $19.99 for the same software.
Yep, total BS. I got the Audigy edition free (wouldn't pay a cent for it) and it's still the basic Sigmatel soundcard without the Audigy software (that I won't install anyway).
Thats good to know, that will save me $25. I think a lot of people buy it because it sounds like a good upgrade, AND its cheap..
Hmm. I talked to a xps rep also, and he told me its was a card upgrade. For the canadian site, this is what you see:

Note there is no "Software Edition". I'm not implying that the US/CDN systems are different, this is just what i know. I was also suprised that the "Multi-channel Surround Support" was "Stereo to 7.1 surround depending on system codec". I though 5.1 was the limit.

Having looked at the service manual for this system there is no hardware Audigy option listed

As doc evil stated a lot of the reps don't much and they are just trying to wring more money out of you

Hahaha, gah, its funny when they get squemish about questions like that. I remember asking an alienware chat person why shipping was so damned expensive, and they signed off on me! Ok, so I asked if they shipped it in a gold plated box, or if the packing peanuts were sprinkled with diamond dust, but she didnt have to hang up out of the chat program! My feelings were hurt..

I can assure you Canadians don't get any different M1210 than Americans do. The Audigy sound option is purely software. All it does is let you use EAX in games, but EAX is just being processed by the software.
I double checked my M1210's BIOS screen and it clearly says the Sigmatel audio is the hardware used. Luckily they gave me the SB stuff for free in case I ever want to play around with it.
did any of you who actually bought the software upgrade end up uninstalling it? i also got the audigy s/w for free but i'm wondering whether i should just uninstall it... does it increase SQ at all or just add EAX effects?
i think it increases sound Quality
finally got to open up my xps 1210, it came preinstalled with the eax stuff and the cd. the sound quality is surprisingly good for a sigmatel onboard card. however i have a spare REAL sound audigy card i will be using when i get a chance to. i will be doing some pcmark runs with and without the audify in the near future, i wonder if the score will rise due just like it did my inspiron 9300?
huh how are you going to use an audigy card with the M1210? or do you mean the USB one...
