They sent me the remote control and the security cable, I guess they thought this would make my 1st of April delivery date not seem so far away. LOL

If your happy with the 8600, I would just keep it. The main reason I went for the XPS is I wanted a total desktop replacement. I live on a boat so space becomes an issue. Of coarse if I ever fall off the dock with the pack on and the XPS inside they will never find me. LOL

Yeah, I ordered yesterday and got an e-mail today saying the remote was shipped. I should be able to lose it or misplace it before my laptop gets here. You know how remotes are.

Space was my main reason, I have a old 450 Mhz now, so it's time, and a desktop is just an eye-sore near the living room. A laptop made sense. I was just talking in another thread about cases.

You may want to look at the Pelican cases, they float in salt water with up to 20 lbs in it, you could use your laptop as a life preserver

edit 1 - forgot the site, I'm not sure if this is their official site but you can look at them

From what I've heard they are one of the best protective cases on the market. I believe they are submersible waterproof, float and I've seen adds with people driving a truck over them. Tech TV is a big supporter of the quality of their products, that is where I first heard about them.

Like I said before, The manufacturer does not sell direct and I'm not familiar with the business practice of the site I listed. I just did a search and that was one that popped up.

Once I get my laptop, I may have to look at one. But if I owned a boat, I would definately have one. Since I ordered the Complete care, it isn't as important too me.

I think I've decided on the Pelican 1490CC-DX, it looks like there will be plenty of room in there. Here's the link.http://www.casesbypelican.com/pelica...aptop_case.htm

Glad you got some use out of the site. I was on the tech tv site today and found the original article I saw as well as the site they said they buy theirs from. They also list a few additional purchase sites down the left side of the Tech TV Site.

I wanted to check E-Bay before I bought and found this Pelican 1526 with travel bag. The bag itself fits inside of the hard case, you can change the velcro enclosure around to your needs. When you don't need the hard case just pull out the bag and walk away. Will work great for my situation, here's what it looks like. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=30051 Thanks again.

I dont know about u guys, but Dell really forgot what the word notebook means.what are they thinking with that titanic NOTEBOOK they have. When i first seen it http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.html?i=1967 , i first thought it was a joke and then i go to dell.com and i c this moster i just started to laugh. I really dont think they are going to make that much money out of this products. plus AMD is coming out with there 64bit M CPU soon ( is out but not that widespread) and the P4 Extreme Will suck the battery out of the NB.i dont get them is like they forgot people are going to carry this NB places or is this something like what chaintech is doing http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mob...h-imodesk.html . Is this some kind of joke or are they for real. Well notebook in my vocabulary is something that u can take everywhere lightweight and last a long time on battery.in my opinion the only thing this NB has is that u can change VPU.that NB looks like an Overweight 8600 (i guess we are not the only one get alittle fat i guess NB go through there stages LOL) . It just looks like they added a bay to it. this is a good question how many here would pay for that NB. please what do u guys think. i mean i dont know how many of you are into computer at heart but me i been building them from age 13 and everyone knows here that what u mostly need for a good computer to play games is ram and VPU and at least 1.3 ghz and u are good to go. Not for notting but u can really say this is a Desktop replacement. it isnt that far from Desktop lol.DELL HAS REALLY DISAPOINTED ME WITH THIS NEW NOTEBOOK. i have been waiting to c whata was the next hottes thing and they come out with this TITANIC.

I really would like to know that battery life on this NB. On the dell site i dont even see it. im guess is not that good because they are not abertising it.

8600 KIcks as in my opinion. REALLY a mobile computer with good batterylife and can play ALL MY KICK ASS GAMES WITH NOT PROBLEM.

When you consider the lan party market, it's mostly untapped with the exception of a couple of notebook models from Sager and a handful of others. High performance PC's are a dime a dozen. High performance notebooks with something close to cutting edge graphics are not.

There's also people like me out there, who demand the performance of a desktop without sacrificing anything in games. The XPS has a bona-fide desktop processor and motherboard chipset.... and the ability to upgrade graphics later on. I don't need the thing to be thin or light since i'm not hauling it to meetings or to field sales. I merely need it to *perform*.

Heck, if Dell or anyone else made a notebook that had a 19" screen, full 3.5" drivebays and still had the replaceable graphics card thing, I'd buy it even if it didn't even have a battery and ran on AC only.

Well, heck, why don't you just carry yer desktop around with you everywhere, or get a SFF (small form-factor) box...that's essentially what you're describing, you know!
No, it's not....

a SFF PC with a separate LCD panel, keyboard etc is NOT what i'm describing.

Honestly, the only real peripheral one should need externally is a mouse. Wifi and a laptop-like design should take care of everything else. I don't consider SFF machines to be "small form factor". You *STILL* need a desk to dedicate to it in order for it to be practical.

To me, a true "SFF" design would be a laptop-like deal with a 19" LCD, full size keyboard if it's possible, and all peripherals integrated into the base unit (with user replaceability/upgrades being a big plus).
