x1400

Hi, could anybody who has used a laptop with a x1400 (128mb up to 512 hypermemory) gpu in it tell me how it handles games. I found this laptop which looked extremely good price wise.

There was also another laptop which had a geforce go 7600 256mb. The rest of the specs are pretty similar for both laptops if not identical. However this one cost nearly £200 more.

Basically could anyone tell me how each of these choices would handle games. Such as oblivion, cs 1.6 and source, bf2 etc.

Thanks.

The 7600 is nearly twice as powerful as the X1400.

The x1400 will handle most of todays games on medium, while the X1600 and 7600 can do medium-high, and high.

Ah thanks. I might decide to go for the x1400 in that case, since being a student I will need all the extra cash i can get And if it can play those games then that will suit me.

Can someone also explain if it is possible to upgrade to the new intel 64bit dual core processor when it comes out. I have heard stuff on here about it but I just wanted to know if it would be possible.

you can play cs 1.6 with x1400 and thats about it. what chipset does you laptop have? it would be pretty pointless to upgrade to core 2 duo if your graphics is x1400

I dont have a laptop. The ones I were looking at were the ones in the links in the first post. I think the chipset would be shown there. You think the x1400 would not be able to play the other games i mentioned?

7600 go or mobility x1600 will lag on oblivion. and a x 1400 would just die on oblivion. i saw my friend trying to play oblivion with a 6600gt on desktop which is equal to around a 7600 go and x1600 and 3 frames per second was just sad. he got kill by a crab.... but if hes dumb if you turn the res down a lil you can probably get like 20fps so its playable. but x1400 definiatly will lag like crazy.

asus sj96 has x1600 and its price is decent and i know for a fact that it can support core 2 duo. so does E1705 but its a lil more expensive but if you buy it from on of those guy on the forum it might be affordable. +e1705 comes with either x1400 7800 or 7900gs and 7800 or 7900gs can handle all those games no problem

Tell that to my E1505 with an x1400.

Obviously I'm not playing on high settings (medium with some eye candy turned off/down) but the game is very playable. It's just not as pretty but I don't lag/stutter AT ALL.

Jumbie, does your x1400 have 128mb? Also what are the rest of the specs on your system?
128 on board and 128 shared with system.

100 GB 7200 rpm drive

T2500 2.0 GHz processor

2 GB 533 MHz OCZ RAM

Completely clean system with no junk taking up resources and a well-defragged HD. That should be all that's relevant although the processor and HD shouldn't play as a big a role in running of the game (although it will help with load times) as RAM and vid card does.

My bro played Oblivion on ATI FireGL T2 128 MB (Mobility Radeon 9600 equivalent). That's something. (Do you still remember the time when 9600 was the top card?) It was 640x480, low settings, but it was well playable, and it still looked "amazing" or so he told me.

I think Jumbie and Tommi have made up my mind about going for the x1400 one. It looks a reasonable price and I need all the money I can get right now so it does make sense. Thanks for the input.

Just don't expect anything amazing out of a X1400 in a game like Oblivion. My (albeit aging) X800XT PE with a X2 3800+ at 2.5GHz and a 1GB RAM can barely push 1280x720 at medium settings. Frame rates drop down to ~15FPS pretty regularly outside.

yes seriously depends on what you think is lag. lag means below 25fps for oblivion for me. ruins the gameplay fun if you have anything below 15

even a 7800GT will get sub 20fps in outdoor scenes... Oblivion is just a beast of a game
