Max out my 9300... or wait?

Ok so the question is should I max out my 9300 thats about 7 months old now, or wait for the new gen processors like Merom and buy that?

What I would do if I kept the 9300 would be buy the 7800GTX if you still even can... not sure. Buy 2 Gigs of RAM, bigger/faster hard drive, and maybe pin-mod .

I havent been around in a while... since I got my 9300 and it was new and I was full of questions, but when is the next expected release from dell. Meaning the next gen laptops with the new processors?

I would say for sure if you decide to keep what you have you should definatly upgrade your memory and maybe consider trying a pin-mod; that way if you do decide to upgrade then you already have memory that is compatable with an e1705 or whatever and you will gain a huge performance improvement; then you could just wait for merom or the new high-end mobile graphics to buy the new system

if you plan too keep the laptop for couple years like i am its pretty worth it

i just upgraded too a 7800gtx about 1week ago and got the 2gb of ram about 3months ago.

and now its a gaming machine plays every game on high and even on either 1600x1200 res or 1920x1200

the 9300 is still a good machine and still keeps up with the big boys

later on i problee gona get the 1.7 pm 400mhz and pin mod it too 2.13.

or might even go for the monster 1.8ghzs and pin mod that

and than upgrade the hdd too a 7200rpms with more gbs.

but thats up too you if you want too hang on too the 9300.

i thought about this alot and i realized that it wasn't worth it to me to spend $500 bucks on a graphics card, battery, 130 watt power adapter, and shipping to upgrade old technology. if i were to sell my current laptop and just keep my ram (put in old ram) and then buy new technology which is far superior and will last longer for maybe $200 more then why would i wanna spend 500 for a really good old machine when for 700 i could get a pretty good new machine. and it would stay pretty good much longer. well at least till dx10. that is what i am waiting for. my 2 cents

I sold my 9300 and got an E1705 and it was a great move. My 9300 was oc'd and benched the same as yours, but when you compare it to the dual core processor and the 7900GS in the E1705, there is no comparison in performance. After selling the 9300 my upgrade after buying 2gb of ram from newegg only ended up costing me $500 :-)

cool. if i were to buy one though my config would be a little different zeke. i would get the worst processor possible because im only gonna use it till i can upgrade to merom. and i would go with a 7200 rpm hard drive. plus i don't know where u are but i live in texas so i have to pay far out the *** in taxes.

I would definately vote for picking up a E1705, or waiting until the next Dell release. Putting money into a 9300 is a bit skecthy if you ask me.

Like Zeke said, it can be done without much cash.

There is not that much of a performance difference between the T2300-T2600 processors, so you will still get a huge performance gain. It's nice to play games maxed out at native resolution, not to mention the video encoding speed jump with the dual core proc, it's awesome!

the problem is i just upgraded my 9300 to a 7800gtx is it should last me about 2 too 3years.

and i just got the laptop on christmas for 1500$ and i cant afford another laptop for 1000$ too 2k.

and i ony play games on it so the single cpu is fine for that.

every game i play on it plays smooth as silk even Oblivion plays on 1600x1200 res and everything up and i get about 20fps and up too 30 outside and 40s too 80s inside.

so if it can play that game like that it shouldint have any trouble for up coming games

and its not worth selling it because i ony problee could get 1000$ too 1200$ for it anyways with the 2gb ram and the 7800gtx in it.

and i paid 1500$ for it stock so i be loseing money.

I believe you hit the nail on the head. If you are going to sell your entire system, you are never going to get what you paid for it, upgraded or not. I would just keep what you have and upgrade incrementily until you absolutely cannot upgrade anymore. Keep in mind that parts shouldn't be too hard to find and prices on said parts will continue to drop.

yeah but i can sell my system with 786 ram that i have. and i could probably get at least a grand for it. i say a grand because i still got 2 years of super warrenty left which=leverage. plus i can get and E1705 with worst proc, 80 gig 7200rpm 7900gs, and 2 gigs for 1400 with taxes. so for 100bucks less i get a far superior system. i do a lot of 3d modeling in c4d and 3dsmax and sure i got a network render set up but a dual core merom would make a HUGE difference. plus i am gonna make a quad core desktop when they come out so... yeah. i will probably do this closer to the new school year. that is when the ultra sexy, remove my feet for cash, dell deals hit.

If you can get a grand for it, go for it. I see XPS M170's going for $1200 of so.

speaking of the school year for a student on a budget I'd much rather throw in more ram and keep on trucking with this PC till I get a real job.
