hi guys, i'm a noob here. i've been reading alot here, and this forum is awesome!

anyway, i have dell 9300 17inch(pentium M 1.73) with 512 ddr2 ram. i bought it last october.

i do lots of webdesign, photoshop, and play civilization 4 occasionaly. because i only have 512 ram, it's very slow on both.

my question is should i upgrade my memory to 2gb or just ditch my computer and get a different laptop like acer 5672?

my computer is about $700 on ebay and 2gb memory upgrade costs about $200.

i really like the acer 5672, and it's $899 on compusa online with $300 mail in rebate. so money is about the same. i like 17 inch screen and 2gb would be a huge help for what i do. and it's only 9 months old. it was da sh!t back then.

but at the same time, i'm tempted to get a core duo at a reasonable price.

what should i do? i just can't decide.

also, i was a mac person until very recently, so i really don't know what is the best pc option for web designers and a casual gamer(once in a week).

i wish i could stay with mac but it's just too expensive.

you can upgrade your ram for $150 and sell the 512 for $30 = $120

Whats the video card on your 9300 anyway? If its a 6800, keep it.

i think it's x300 something. i don't really care for video card that much. anyway, i'm leaning towards to upgrading.

I would just get the 5672 or the dell 1505 or 1405.

It looks like you can stay with it for a while. I would try to upgrade whenever possible. Try to sell yours when you aren't satisfied or want to change something that you can't upgrade, like screen, a smaller notebook etc. etc.

upgrade, upgrade
ram is the most important,
hard drive speed/size is a plus,
cpu secondary,
vidcard when possible (and cheap)

cheers ...
