Ahahaha let's see it!

Yeah, please let me know how this order turns out for you. I'd be interested to see if you get any dead pixels (I hope not). It looks like you and Tekara both ordered from CyberPower, which was one of the more respectable-looking resellers I found for the Mitac 8355.

are you getting it painted?

Nah.. I don't feel a need for that.. and it would only delay the shipment ^^

Sorry if I am making a big deal out of this.. but I'm just so excited!

Keep it in perspective or you will build it up too much in your mind and be disappointed.

The one thing I cant stand about most (all that i have seen, anyway, but just in case) the systems based on this barebones, is that they underclock to 800Mhz when powered by a battery and refuse to speed up, as of yet I have not heard of a way around it

I think all laptops with any kind of mobility do this.
I borrowed a Centrino 1.5 (compaqx1000) from work and it dropped down to 500mhz (as I recall). Plus it's important to remember that 800mhz might not be the fastest desktop around, but try and find anything faster that runs longer on batteries.
800mhz out of a AMD64 is around the same speed as a P4 @ 1.5GHZ or so. For a "running from batteries" solution, this is NOT slow.

the 800mhz deal is apart of AMDs athlon64 mobile. you need to do some searching but I know there are ways around it. the most common that I come across is to roll the notebook drivers back (I'm not sure which in particular off the top of my head).

You're right, this does work (as I recall it is the processor driver). But that really cuts your pretty good battery time (3+ hours) down to nearly P4 levels.

The p4/p4m/pm/axp-m adjust the clock of Cpu based on intensity of the application, but the a64 (which i know this is AMD doing, thew were actually going to release the 800mhz version as 2200+, you can even find some preview of it online) but some company trashed the whole idea and are working on allowing for intensity based clocking, as for the "workaround" which is to roll back the drivers, so you are always at 2GHz ie 89watts of heat ie 1hour battery life, i would love a way to autoadjust the cpu based on intensity and will just have to wait

If you want to save some battery you can always "downclock" it using clockgen:

the point is that it is automatic, do you really want to change the settings everytime you switch an application, plus of course many of those proccessor i listed adjust Vcore of even less power

Actually only the Centrino Pentium M is better at power consumption then the AMD64.
But I get your point. It would be nice if the AMD64 dynamically adjusted it's clock speed up and down like a Centrino.
It is possibe. There are motherboards (desktop) that have dynamic overclocking. This is basically the same thing. When CPU demand scales up, the processor does too. Someday this technology will be added to AMD64 laptops. But no one making AMD64 laptops motherboards has figured out how to do this yet. In the meantime, being 2nd place in power management and 1st place in pure horsepower among mobile processors is not a bad place to be.

I read somewhere in the AMD forums about some one installing win2000 on the eMachines notebook. PowerNow worked perfectly on it clocking the processor up or down depending on the work load. When it was running on win XP it would also lock the processor at 800 Mhz when on batt power.
