**I just bought an S96J Thread** - Page 4

I remember last year when we had threads about how exited folks were when they got their Z71v or Z70va. ah, nostalgia...

I'm glad you're all happy with your new notebooks

If anyone has any problems with the stand-by issue; If you download the windows drivers and hotfixes, it works.

Anyone get there wireless key to work on there keyboard? I dont remember where to go? (Intel?)

HALO and CS are unbeliveable with this card!! Even with the Catalyst drivers there still so good.

What is the stand by issue?
When the notebook shuts it screen off( after screen saver) powers down the screen ,when you want to go back to use the notebook, the screen doesnt boot up.

Ohh mine does that, to get back to desktop ill hit my power button, then click on my username in XP. Then im back. My laptop keeps freezing with HDR on in oblivion.. maybe its becuase I have updated drivers yet? And I also got 3705 in 3dmark so far.

Edit: Installed new drivers from intel website and I got 3951.

Man...the wait is killing me too. I am way to eager to get this beast. Although, the recent discussions about the grainy textures kind of worries me, but hopefully it won't be an issue... I'm not sure though. I'm excited to try Oblivion on it too. It should run better than what my desktop can handle, so it should be pretty exciting to get.

What!! No way! I ordered mine the same time as you and got mine yesterday...maybe Ken is still busy. The grainy texture is nothing. I compared it to my Dell monitor which compared to it is just as good. Get mobile meter and track the temps its so cool.
Yeah my graininess disappeared. I was gone for a couple days, came back and the screen was back to normal. I suppose I had a different issue or somehow fixed it inadvertantly. I even brought the heat up with some gaming last night and it's still fine.

Where is the model number for the screens?? Ive been looking for it and im not sure where it is.
Bhat,

Fn+F2 (and the front LED) is enabled by installing the Wireless Console Utility from the ASUS drivers CD. It doesn't really disable the wireless connection (at least for me). To do that, I have to disable it in Network Connections.

I don't have any problems with standby. Be sure you install the ACPI Control Driver (aka ATK0100 ACPI Control Driver, ATKACPI Driver etc.) BTW, how does one get hibernate to work on a clean XP install?

Be seeing you...

Well I had the problems, and I called GenTech and my BIOS is up to date(latest builds) and basically when I went to shut down the notebook, it had downloaded alot of updates and those updates I guess took care of the standby issue.

Mine was listed on a small piece of yellow tape affixed to the plastic protection sheet attached on the screen. I believe the only other way to find out is to take it apart and read what it says on the labels. From what I have seen though, the majority of S96Js use the AO screen.
Yeah, My screen is the AUO screen. It looks beatutiful and I don't see any grainyness. I was having a little driver problem early on in the game but I fixed it and now my computer is running aOK!

Oblivion runs amazing, although i did die... Im just having trouble keeping the wireless on when I close the laptop. And how do i disable the touchpad?

The top-right button next to the leds disables it, most likely it requires the Synaptics touchpad driver to be installed though.
There button two left of the power button disables the touchpad. I had the same question.
