m9700 CPU overclocking tool **YES!**

It appears the standard nForce4 chipset will work for overclocking utilities!

Specifically, I used SysTool, used the default nForce4 Clock generator, and successfully overclocked the Turion ML44 in this m9700.

With a slight CPU tweak, I broke 10k on a 3dmark05

YEA!

Okay, I will do it when I get my m9700 before the end of this week. Is it safe to raise it to 2.5?

i had it steady at 2.58, but unstable at 2.6 with stock cooling.

Good find, Marker

Cool! I'll be testing mine out as soon as I get it! Thanks guys!

How are the temperatures while overclocked?

I'd be very careful overclocking the turion without making sure you have adequate cooling.
For overclocking. I ordered the low-end one 1.8.. could I clock it to 2.5 also?
It's possible if it's a good chip. But I don't think you will be able to do that inside the laptop with the stock cooling. More than likely it would require upping the vcore to get anywhere near that speed. When I say it's possible, I'm more or less saying if it was in a desktop environment.

With the ML44(2.4Ghz) i had to stop at 2.58Ghz under stock heating, i don’t think you will get the 1.8 up to 2.5 under stock.

I was unstable at 2.6Ghz (my personal goal, im happy with that), I failed SP2004 stress test and/or freezes the system.

temps with OC to 2.58 went up and stabilized at 75C running SP2004. i have seen it get this hot under stock settings (2.4) so i was not concerned.

PS: I used SP 2004 for stress because that’s what AW told me they use

Quick question - SP2004 = Stress Prime 2004, right?

yepers, basically the same as prime95, just new features

Thought as much - thanks for the clarification marker

This method of OC'ing ups the fsb, correct? So basically you're overclocking everything in the system. I don't think it would be safe for the peripheral hardware to push a 1.8 that high even if it could do it.

And you really shouldn't overclock a laptop without knowing what you're doing, especially one this expensive. Google for some overclocker's forums and read how to safely and slowly clock things up while monitoring temps if you really want to do that. Again, overclocking the processor voids your warranty.

The gain is fun if you're successful, but if you're not you could end up with a paperweight or very expensive repair bills. There's really no need to overclock a laptop that scores 10,000 in 3dMark05 at this point anyway.

I'm not sure I want to push the processor at all, I'll be adding AS5 mainly just to aid cooling, but it's just so tempting to tweak the vid cards a bit the way they're underclocked for power savings...
Oh ok. I wasnt sure how the processors were setup. I was thinking that maybe it was 1.8 because it was underclocked.

Thank you. I dont really want to push it that much. Just maybe 1.9.

I have a single 7900 vid card, so will mine be easier to overclock than the SLI configured ones

Hey Marker (or anyone that can answer) I tried the exact same thing. All of my numbers match yours, except for the CPU clock, it reads @ 836 mhz.

What's up with that?

Edit: Ok, now I noticed that it is tied to the CPU Multiplier. Does anyone elses change constantly?

Sounds like you still have PowerNow! (AMD's load-throttling stuff) enabled - have you tried disabling that?

If so - and it's disabled - check which CPU drivers you have.. You need the Turion specific CPU drivers from AMD - at least one machine (markers) shipped with the wrong drivers, which meant that as CPU load increased the CPU drivers lowered the clock (d'oh!), and it also stopped him totally disabling PowerNow..
probably so aaronjb - how do you disable?

I have the newest driver that marker01 referenced on his review.
I'd love to tell you.. but I can't..

But that's because mine hasn't turned up yet, and this laptop is an Intel

I'm sure marker or HH, or some other knowledgable person will be along in a sec

you want to set your windows power scheme to "Always on"

Open Contorl Panel and open Power Options

Change Power Scheme to Always On.

that disables "most" of power now, but on battery power, if your processor hits a very high load, it will kick in again... i am speaking with AW, and AMD about this.

if you keep her pluged it, nothing will change the CPU.

Systool help!

I have installed Systool on my system ,however it could not detect my MOBO, it asks me for a report or to select which mobo I have. Has this happen to anyone?
