[IMPORTANT] My printer does not work under USB

Help!!

My printer (Lexmark E210, aka Samsung ML-1250) does not work under Windows XP if I'm using USB connection. Call me dumb, but I always used the parallel connector. Now, for some reason I thought I should try the USB and..... nothing. It says there is an "unknown device" on the USB port. The CD driver doesn't help either... (for some reason it appears to be Win9x only).

Keep in mind that the parallel connection works just fine. Couldn't be better.

This is really urgent.

Link to drivers page: http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-per...cgi&&req=:::::
Now. Install drivers first without the printer hooked up. after drivers finish installing then connect printer to USB port. Hopefully it works for you.

I know, I already did that and much more. This is what happen:

If I connect my printer to the USB port, windows says it's an "unknown" hardware. When I try to install the driver (a file called "ssusb.inf"), it says the file does not have any info for the hardware.

I believe the problem is that I can't add the USB port to the printer.

//edit:

It seems the USB driver is only for Win9x. So what ?!? Windows XP didn't detect the printer, and the USB driver only works with Win9x ?!? Is it really that difficult to create a printer driver for XP?

//edit:

I will kill myself. After wasting almost three hours (non stop), I turn the printer off, leave only the USB cable connected. Turn it on, and everything goes fine.

Leave the printer plugged in, delete the unknown device from Device Manager.

Unplug the printer, re-install the driver from: http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-per...&searchLang=en

Plug in the printer again.

See if that works.

Yes, Revenent, that's what I just did. I'm dumb... I restarted both the computer and the printer (power cycle). Windows XP detected it normally.

ha ha, no need to kill yourself. Maybe not everyone will admit to it, but all of us here have made mistakes like that quite a few times

Yeah, under normal circunstances I would try more to fix my problem before posting here, but it was 2 AM already and I had a paperwork for my college this morning. Anyway, thanks everyone.

Now let's stop bumping so it will be buried faster
