SigmaTel utily for M90?

Well, is there one? When I open the SigmaTel Audio program from Control Panel, a plain window opens with only a checkbox asking to Allow Jack Reconfiguration Pop-ups.

Is that it? If so, that is pretty lame IMO.

That's all mine shows too. At least it sounds good.

P.S. We should start a 1500M club since we seem to be a minority here.

Hehehe... yeah we should. Honestly, I don't know how there could be something better than the 1500M. I think 2500M might be overkill. I've heard it was in the consumption dept.

Yeah, it def uses a lot more power. But I could see needing the 2500M if I were playing Oblivion on a WUXGA. But for my games at WXGA+, I'm perfectly happy. Avg 45 fps at F.E.A.R. at max settings... I'm really happy.

I read somewhere that the M90 sound setup is similar to the 1710's. Is that true? If so, where is the subwoofer? How much better does the SoundBlaster card peform than the SigmaTel one?
The M1710 and the M90 are exactly the same besides looks and graphics cards, and even the graphics cards are pretty much the same. The subwoofer is on the bottom near the front. There's a little circle that looks like a vent and has a curved bumper in front of it. It's right next to the battery. And the M1710 doesn't have a SoundBlaster card either, it's just the Sigmatel too. It just has the option of Creative Labs SoundBlaster Software, which is available for download on any computer from Creative's website (for a price).

Can I join your exclusive club? BTW, I get the same lame message.

Hmmm, interesting. So what are the benefits of this software? I am willing to give it a whirl if there are important advantages to it. Can anyone provide the link to the software information?

Thanks in advance...

search "audigy" in this forum.

I use the Toshiba SRS utility. It's a free download. It's pretty good, boosts the highs and mids a lot, but cuts the bass too much for my pleasure, so I usually end up using the regular sound settings. I'm sure it would sound better if I messed around with the settings more, but I'm lazy sometimes. Summer classes don't help either.

I still haven't found the link to where I can purchase the SoundBlaste software and I have been looking for it for a while. Any help?!

.PoNeH,Dell I am pretty sure will sell you that as they did for me as an option to my brand new E1705 core 2 duo. Came installed and included CD also. From your post it appears that you already have it. If your M90 has a better chip than my Simtel 9200 say a 9220 or a more fully implemented 9200 you may reape greater benefits . read my post at reply 140 to Hacking Sigmatel drivers for E1705/9400

Thanks a lot for looking out for me. I really appreciate it.

Now, I took your advice and began reading the thread you recommended but it seems a bit too much for me to absorb.

First of all, how do I know what version of the chip I have? Second of all, what exactly should I do if I do indeed have the better chip?

Thanks again for all your help...

.PoNeH, first of all to answer you question. Run even the lightest free version of Sisoft Sandra, Everest, or Belarc Advisor. (Sandra lists and tests hardware limits of your machine) (Belarc tests nothing but you will know all that is installed hard and soft) I see your M90 feature set as having Sound Blaster Audigy HD So if that is correct you've either got a Creative/Emu (Sound Blaster) chip but more likely a Sigmatel with what is known as Sound Blaster Audigy Software HD. If you go to bottom right and right click on a little blue speaker icon and see a pop up menu with Creative Media Source selections, EAX,Graffic EQ, etc. then you have the software already. If not and you want it Dell will sell it to you and they will be able to say for sure if it will work for M90. ......I just checked Dells web site even dld M90 tech PDF. It certainly is an as kickin machine but you'd think they would tell us something more about the sound than it has a mike input and a headphone/ line out jack. For this it is a very safe bet that you have a Sigmatel 9200. If it were 9220 we'd see more inputs and outputs. Good listening to yah.

I already had the Creative media Source software installed but didn't reinstall it after I reformatted as I didn't really see any big improvements with my audio worthy of having the extra resources running. Now, is there something I missed out? Should I go back to it? Are those the greater benefits you were talking about?

notebook_ftw SRS Wow effect is some trendy stereo expansion phase trickery and by nature does mess up center channel info especially at lower frequency. let these guys know if SRS utility from Toshiba gives them EQ and a "stereo mix recording" or "record what you here",(monitor options anyone) then mabey drop that in the Sigmatel driver hack thread too ; because that's all they really want...well me too or mabey we've just got to mess with things.

.PoNeH I suspect little if any benefits unless you consider the EQ to add alot. It does give a little compensation to the built in speakers. I guess you have a better player with EQ, better wave editor, and a media file converter that you are comfortable with. I dont know what you get for a Mixer control panel but the regular windows mixer is fine though separates the play mixer and record mixer to two panels. Also do you have that little subwoofer and control over its level like in the Audigy HD software. I'm not ready to uninstall the software to find out.
