repainting a laptop

Thread Starter
ok, normally I wouldn't weigh the cosmetics of electronics very heavily into my decision. In the case of the compal hgl30 however, the teal lid is really just shockingly ugly. I have every reason to believe it's a great performer, so i'd really like to give it a chance, but I don't want a teal laptop. So what I'm wondering is, can I repaint it? Will i have issues with peeling? Or is there a good way to do it. Like the automotive finishes on high end desktops, except without costing a ton.

To make it the most robust, it's going to take a LOT of time. Base coat of primer, color coat, then clear coat, with lots of wet-sanding in between...basically, the same as the desktop painting methods.

If the lid is plastic I suggest you use vinyl dye as it soaks into the plastic and bonds with it making it the color of your choice. Can be picked up at WalMart and auto parts stores. FOr the teal there I would use white first and then the other color you plan to use.
