Please rate my purchase...was I ripped off?

There is so little information on the Gateway I just bought (no reviews, little in the way of forum conversations, etc.) that I kind of went with a blind purchase today

I picked it up at Bestbuy so I have 14 days to decided if I should keep it.

Anyway, here are the details. This is an email, Ipod, surfing machine only.

MX6951 Platinum Edition
Core Duo T2300 (1.6 Ghz)
15.4 WXGA UltraBright
1GB DDR2
Intel Graphics Acc. 950
100GB HD (4200 RPM)
Double Layer DVD burner
4-in-1 Media Card reader
10/100/1000 Ethernet
INTEL Pro Wireless

$999 Canadian.

I took some comfort in that fact that it listed at $1599 CDN in May of this year and this sale was $300 off the $1299 price.

Rip? Ok deal? Let me have it!

http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/...08963sp2.shtml Well it all depends on what your Graphic Card is, 64MB,128MB 256MB, not sure what a Intel Graphics ACC.950 is? (Oh wait Gateway says you have 128MB of VRAM), If your not a Gamer and plan on not running the lastest & greatest softwear titiles, then you didn't do too bad with this Lappy, enjoy your new Core Duo

Hmm..a little concerned re: the video card.

I went from a M1710 with a 7900 GS to this knowing that I was was leaving gaming to my xbox. But, it could affect regular software use too?

the IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/gma950/) is more than enough to handle a wide range of apps (cads, games etc ..). if u r not too much into hard gaming, it would do fine. i would recommend upgrading ur hard drive to a faster spin - 7200rpm would be great, since the 4200rpm can be a bottleneck for an otherwise good system

cheers ...

The only thing it will effect is 3D type apps. If you aren't planning to do any intense high res gaming or 3D rendering it is more than adequate. It won't affect non-3D apps.
