Ugh...more Mediadirect woes on an M1710 :( Help!

Thread Starter
I just got my new M1710.

I formatted the hard drive before Mediadirect had even run once, so the hidden partition did not exist.

I formatted, leaving 1.5GB Unallocated.

I installed Windows, and then installed MD2.0. No problems so far.

Now, Mediadirect loads when I push the button on the front of the system, but it's very, VERY laggy. AWFUL refresh rate on the main page, and I can't get any DVD to actually play.

Did I miss something?

If I try to start a DVD, the screens goes completely light blue, with the mouse cursor moveable, and after a couple of minutes the system blue-screens with a

nv4_disp physical dump error.

How do I fix this?

Any help appreciated. I hate Mediadirect!!!

I think it has been talked about in this forum that if you're reinstalling MediaDirect after reformatting the HDD that originally came with your system, then you don't create a separate partition for MediaDirect. I may be wrong with this but I'm sure others will be able to help you out. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I think you only leave the drive as it is if you've already run Mediadirect the first time. Mediadirect wasn't set up at all when I turned the system on, so it didn't have a chance to make the partition and hide itself.

I hope that made some sort of sense. Essentially, the hard drive didn't have the Mediadirect partition on it yet (I think). The 100GB drive has the same amount of space available as the 100GB drive I bought from zipzoomfly, basically.

Hey William,

Try to search the forums for "Media Direct Repair" and see if you come up with any hits. I remember someone went into detail about fixing this problem (and he did a great job I might add). He gave a step-by-step guide on how to fix Media Direct. Good luck!

I have a quick noob question also, because this thread sort of confused me. I just got my new M1710 and didn't use the MediaDirect button (and thus MediaDirect, whatever is actually is, I'm not sure what it does!). Anyway, I immediately reformatted and reinstalled WinXP Pro SP2 and I did leave a separate partition that I noticed on the HD alone, figuring it was for something important.

I reinstalled everything with no problems and no WARNINGS are showing up for unknown hardware in Device Manager so I think everything's good to go. My question is, how do I know if this MediaDirect feature works or not? Is it related to the small silver buttons on the front edge of the Laptop, below the opening hinge/slider? Because mine light up and seem to work at lowering or raising the volume or turning off my sound.

If this my MediaDirect won't work now that I've done a reformat, how will I know it's not working and how can I fix it? Please and thank you for any help and information.

I'm just a lowly M1710 noob. LOL

Well I just tried the MD button and it brings up an blue interface (Sonic Cineplayer I think it's called)? Or maybe that came up because I put a DVD in the drive too, I'm not sure.

I think I was just dumb. There was indeed a hidden partition. However, I'm not going to mess around with it today anymore. I'll deal with it later. Thanks for the help, all.

And as usual, in these forums, little to no answers to any questions. What did I expect..LOL

THis subject has been gone over so many times no one wants to bother with it. The search function is VERY useful. THere are a lot of people that work very hard to answer many questions on this forum. I am a little confused how someone that has only been a member for a few days can come to that conclusion. Especially considering this is one of the most active forums on this entire site. As far as media direct....You see that button to the left of the numlock LED? The one that says "MediaDirect" press it while the laptop is completely off. You will launch the application.

Did you take any of the advice that was given? Did you search for that post that I was talking to William about? Maybe that would help you out.

Yeah, I did my searches, the problem is that you end up with a lot of people saying directly opposing comments or muddying the waters with other side-topics and such. Regardless of how long I've been here it's fairly easy to spot the trends.

Yes I have noticed some helpful people but in general, most basic queries seem to go unanswered, and I'm not even referring to mine, which I can usually find the answers for myself.

Also, SolApathy, I'm cognizant of the MediaDirect button and have already repaired it to work properly.

Thanks for at least replying to my questions, I definitely appreciate it. I hope I have not insulted anyone by grumbling about the lack of replies.

Have you tried my install document?

No, I actually fixed it after doing the research that was suggested. Thank you anyway and I'm going to save your document for future reference. Have some rep.
