I am not familiar with laptop heat..I do know they run hotter than desktops...but what would yall call high heat under Idle and under game play...my system is ..EX7 with 3.8 and the 7900gtx video card......

Your EX7 is a bit different than mine. However, my idle temps were in the range of 40-45. In gaming, it was up near 60. My concerns were if it was over 60. I don't remember where I read what the cutoff was, but whenever I was getting over 60, I was making sure to take action for cooling.

I would say over 50 in idle is high heat. For gaming, maybe 65-68 is high and over that could be dangerous. Again, I don't remember the cutoff, but I wanted to say it was at around 70-something that systems were shutting off.

Keep this in mind. I was in Europe at the time. There was no air conditioning where I was (quite normal it seems for Europe - or atleast Germany). As such - the house was definitely not as cool as most places are kept here in the US (for instance - my home is kept near 77F).

P.S. - Becuase this is just normal questions and the sort, I relocated your message to the main forum. Trying to keep the four forums organized with only reviews/benchmarks in one, pictures in another and troubleshooting in the last. This one is for the catch all.

Thanks and hopefully someone with a more modern EX7 can shine in as well.

at Idle my heat is about 63c and while playing games like Hitman and COD my temps are between 72c and 78c.......I wonder if thats why My cpu drops from 3.8 to 3.27 on battery...the cutoff is 85c it will shutdown at that temp....I am just wondering if I should request service on it......my key pad gets real hot just above the harddrives..........and the exhuast from the GPU (video card) is hotter than hell...I can see a drop in performance while playing COD2 but with Hit Man Blood Money I dont see any performance change...I may take it to work with me tommorrow and call tech support...I just reformated to see if that makes a differance......

seems a little high, do you lift the computer up in the back?.....if you dont, try to put a paperback or something back there, and if you can, engage fans at high when playing games

Whats the temp of the room you are in? I know you are in Georgia - but my assumption is, it is about normal room temperature. Also - what type of surface is the notebook on? I have been told that some keep the heat more than others, allowing the build up.

That being said - they do seem high to me and I would definitely be checking it out. You may find out that it is normal, but like I said - seems high. My system was the 3.6ghz with the 6800 card. Some differences, but to generate that much more heat - I am not sure.

Also - the keypad and exhaust deal seems to have been that way for awhile. I remember some stating they were getting burned because their left wrist was sitting near the exhaust. Not sure of the facts there. I never noticed, because I use external mice and keyboards.

Check out the Sager forums as well to see what they are saying. And when in doubt - call tech support. They should tell you their own experiences.

Good luck!

My laptop sits on a lacquered table alot and it is hotter than on my desk. I also take it to my friends house every Saturday for gaming and it is hot at his house but still runs cooler then on my lacquered table (and we run games for over 12 hours). Mine runs 40's idle and surfing and in the 60's and 70's playing Battlefield 2 and Oblivion.
