Also I would like to stay fairly cheap here. Also I would probably use some of my old stuff (Dell 4600/2 yrs old) what old hardware would you recomend I keep (what doesn't get out dated as fast).

The only things you are going to want to take out of your old Dell is maybe a CD/DVD drive or hard drive.

What are you going to use it for and (the best question) how much do you want to spend?? Or, how much can you spend?

Are you wanting some beast of a gaming computer that would bring a tear to most gamers eye's?

600 bucks and no not a beast of a gaming machine but a good solid fast computer...that can play most games (doesn't have to be at the highest setting) Also what do you prefer AMD or Intel...all I know is Intel cause I suppose it is mainstream.

i would go AMD, its cheaper, and gives you a better overall bang for the buck, something along the lines of AMD64 3700+ is a hair over $200, you can salvage the hard drive, cd drives, sound card (if you have creative, not the integrated crap) so you'll need to buy a case+psu ($70) mobo ($100), ram ($100), and the rest is left for a video card you can always ebay off the parts you dont salvage to increase your budget a hair.
