I just got the HP Pavillion dv5000 and I want to reformat it.

Thing is, where can I get all those HP things again? Like how am I gonna use the remote w/o all those HP things?

Edit: I just realized there's drivers.. drivers cover all of this right?

Would I be able to get all of those HP stuff back if I wanted?

Backup everything in the C:\\SwSetup folder
Download all the SP's from HP (SP="The drivers")

Note for the record when a new model comes out it takes HP a while to get ALL the drivers up on the site, hence the need to backup the SwSetup folder.

Download SP, extract, then compare contents (version #) of the downloaded SP to the one in the SwSetup folder.... Using the newest version of the two which should be the downloaded version...

I reformated, used the SP's off HP's site and I think I only needed (1) item out of the SwSetup folder.

PS: Dv5000 what? T /Z ???? If it's a T you need to research installing the SATA drivers (I've posted numeous times on the subject, do a search)

The dv5000 series comes in TWO favors

1: dv5xxxx T
which is an Intel Core Duo CPU(Core Duo 2's to be released in a few days)

OR the

2: dv5xxx Z
which has an AMD CPU

Well at least you won't have to worry about SATA drivers.... You can use any old XP install you have and it should install... I had several custom XP install with my apps intergrated in and I couldn't get them to install due to the pesky SATA drivers.

PS: Keep in mind anything that applies to any of the Dv5xxx Z's will apply to your unit. The xxx's are just differant versions of the dv5000 series. Best buy getting a differant model than Circuit City....

RE: so my cd-key doesn't work for my windows xp. What cd key? and what XP install disc? Cd on the bottom of the laptop?... that's a OEM CD key. BTW: It has nothing to do with it being a HP... it has to do with the cd key being used and the version of windows being installed, who that Xp disc came frtom. That OEM HP key isn't going to work on a retail, Vol lic Xp disc.

The CDkey I used for my desktop. the install disc I used for my desktop.

Argh, then what good is the OEM key? How can I fresh install with that?

Ok so my brother reformatted everything, even the recovery drive, and now I don't have quickplay, making the remote useless.

I talked to HP and they said to send it in to have everything restored.

So I just want to know for next time, what should I not reformat to keep quickplay? It seems so complicated...

PS: Like I said before that OEM HP key isn't going to work on a retail, Vol lic Xp disc... Or an OEM disc from another mfg.
