PCMCIA (cardbus) combo usb2.0/Firewire

Its been a while since ive been here!

Ok! I recently bought a combo PCMCIA (cardbus) Firewire/USB2.0 card from CompUSA. Works perfect except for the fact that In order for me to use the Firewire port for charging my IPod I need power. The card has a power adapter port for a 3.5mm plug 12V DC negetive on the outside positive on the inside (I think, i don't have the manual with me right now). I need to know where I can get a power switching adapter for this card, Ive googled this but all I get is mixed ...

Also this card is similar to allot of other cards, It seems that CompUSA just buys them and rebadges them under their own name. IOgear has the same card but power requirements are 9v instead of 12v, the manual said something about a power switching adapter?! I could chop up some old phone chargers, but I don't want to screw up and fry my card. That and I want a nice clean look, no tape and solder...

Any suggestions?

Bring the card to your local Radio Shack and find a power adapter of the appropriate voltage with a tip that will fit your card.

i m quite weary about plugging in an external power source direct onto a device that is being hooking up directly onto the laptop. may be just being paranoid - but a 9v or 12 v being pumping into the device that is coming out of either my usb or pcmcia which is delivering less than 5v, hmmm, the math is not good. may be via an extension cable like usb to an external usb powered hub, per example
just my 2cents.

by power switching adaptor u meant something like this (?) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282

The card itself has a power jack on the side, but when I have my mouse and tv tuner plugged in at the same time, the tv tuner hoggs all the juice and sometimes thats not enough. Im thinking that the card itself needs more juice, the 12v is probably enough to power both USB2.0 ports and the Firewire port. The mini port shouldn't cary any power because its a 4 pin port. As for the Radio shack, I think they're too expensive. That and I work the late shift soo I spend most of my time sleeping. I was thinking online purchase if the price is right.

As for that link, I dunno about those multi adapter dohickies. Id rather have a permanant plug, without those little plugs; I seem to loose those xtra little pieces. But doing a little searching and Im comming to the conclusion that I might have to go that rought, I just hope I don't set the wrong polarities and fry the card. 12v does seem like allot of juice for a little card....

I might have to re-read that manual and check if there is a number that I can call. The manual is very short and limited on info, no drivers just a cd with some video editing soft. Kinda contemplating on returning it, paying the xtra 10 bux and getting the IOgear one with the power adapter included. They're exactly Identical xcept for the power requirements....

the tips and the connectors are clearly marked for what polarity that u need. The adapter comes with different voltages so it is not a constant 12v
