recovery on acer 4060

Thread Starter
Hi there

I have an acer 4060 model which did not come with recovery disks - I then played around with the partitions to instal Vista - I kept the first partition with the back on it but lost the MBR which I think was on the D drive. the result is I can make a factory restore disk but cannot use F10 during start up or take an up to date image. I would be really grateful if somebody could tell me how to do it!!!! I have searched the forum but cant really work it out.

Many Thanks

Tim
ps I also get an error dialogue box which says - Monitor - image error1 has anybody else had it??????

I guess Vista overwrites the MBR (which is HD related and not partition related).
Use a partition manger to set the resore partition active and to change it's type o 0Bh (instead of 12h).
Boot into the partition and interupt the autoexec.bat with Ctrl-C.
use the following command to restore the Acer MBR:
acer\tools\mbrwrdos.exe install acer\tools\rtmbr.bin

rtmbr.bin is 512 bytes in size, so look for a file of that size if it is named different on your machine.

Note that Vista may not like the Acer MBR (given that it apparrently overwrote the MBR with it's nw thing)

Re monitor
monitor is part of eRecovery. It expects the D partition to be FAT32 and itmost probably (haven't tested) needs the Acer MBR. Maybe the error message disappears after restoring the Acer MBR.

If you cant use Alt and F10 when computer starts up, you pretty much lost the Image.. its what happen when you mess with computers like that
