It's actually not 24-bit either. I was surprised. its 16.2 mil colors or something close to that.

Great post WTB... these have been the 2 I've been comparing. I'd basically be lugging it to and from work and that's about it (and yes in a car). I'm holding off until we get some review of the go5700 and I'd also like to see it in a few more laptops to improve my selection.

Ok, you are right, 16.2 Mil.
I have written 24bit to tell that I do not want a 262.000 colors screen.
For me 16.2Mil or 16.777.216 is the same .... but I want a sure answer on this, not only a confirm for what the acer technics write in the specifies.

I must trust in it, so I want a secure answer on it.

If you know that 16.2Mil is the real one ok, but can you tell me where and how can you confirm me this beautiful info ?

Thanks.

Took me a while to find it. These are some pretty comprehensive specs. Wish they had info like this on the Sagers.

I still need to know if they use the 5700 performance or desktop version. Anyone know?

In comparison to the other laptop specs I found these pretty good. Seems like LCD specs for individual models are nearly "top secret".

anyone have any exp. with acer tech support in case there is a problem?

If the system supports an 800MHz FSB, but only uses 533. Would it be safe to assume that it would be able to use pc3200?

I am thinking about picking one up for $2000, and putting a 300GB HD, and some nice ram (1 GB pc3200). I tried calling tech support, and there sales rep. Nobody seams to know anything. I want a few basic questions answered.

1 what version of the go5700 does it have (desktop replacement or performance)
2 Will it support pc3200 ram
3 is there anyway to get a barebones model

I am still waiting to see how the go5700 pans out for games, but I still have a few months before I get one.

Brand new information

I got my colleague from Taiwan read the Acer Taiwan site. In there, Aspire 1700 is categorized as a Mobile PC and not as notebook.
